Admiral console on youknowwhere
Im guessing 67/68
Looks like it's priced right. In Des Moines Iowa. Green halo and all.. Guess the cabinet needs a lil work but all in all it should be saved. The guy selling it seems to be a little knowladgable and more in depth than the usual person selling off an old set. He may be the orig owner? Hmmm. http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-ADMIRAL-...d=p3286.c0.m14 |
Can someone please post a pic from the auction, I'm at work and the bay is blocked. Thanks!

Here you go...

Thanks Tony! That's kinda ugly LOL. I'd be interested if it had Sonar remote.

It looks ok. The halo does kinda make it look ugly. Is this one of the ones with the rca clone chassis?
|
I believe it is.....most were clones I think.
|
Admiral had it's own chassis by then... The mid-60s and before had a CTC-16 clone in many of them.

Wow, the '67 I had looked "cloney" to me but I guess it was just similar. It had the "licensed by Hazeltine research" sticker which was an RCA subsidiary IIRC. My '65 looks almost identical to a CTC16

My '65 roundie has the dual outputs but still looks like a 16 as far as how it's laid out. I don't own a 16 (yet) so there might be some differences I'm missing. My '68 tabletop has some weird tubes now that you mention it.

I have yet to see a set in preson with dual output HOTs...

It's pretty cool, there's some pics of it on my tv page at the bottom. It's the '65 Admiral roundie. I replaced the flyback and the HV rect. tube socket since the pics were taken. The socket in the photo where it was replaced got ruined when I unsoldered the HV lead so I put in a second one that looks the same. Unfortunately they are both pink. Ugggh.

My Admiral roundie is a '63 model as I recall, and is not a clone. It is a lot like the RCA sets, but is mirror-image (HV cage on the opposite side) and has plenty of other differences. Single HO. I had another Admiral roundie years ago-I don't remember much about that chassis except it was copper colored.
Admiral was a pretty large volume manufacturer, and had dabbled in color for years. I'm pretty sure this would be a unique chassis. That cabinet doesn't do much for me, that's for sure, but that wouldn't stop me if it were local. I've always had a soft spot for their stuff. |
