Trouble with youtube TV videos
 

Apparently youtube is cracking down on me for violation of copyright laws. My 1961 RCA Victor CTC-11 TV video is in violation for showing the 1961 JFK inaugural address. Now my 1963 Zenith roundie video is in violation as I recorded the last of a new years eve broadcast on analog TV. I absolutely hate the "music" (or should I say noise) thats played on new years eve telecasts. Its all pop culture crap, it sucks, and my video which doesn't even advertize the crap content is in violation. What a joke.
Anyone else have trouble with your youtube TV videos? So I guess just filming something live off the air to demonstrate a vintage TV is going to get you into trouble now. I guess you better show colorbars unless NBC owns the rights to a keyed rainbow pattern too.

What! That's really odd that they would do somethng like that. Wouldn't those clips be ok because they were originally aired on broadcast television anyways? How does that justify as copyright material anyway. Sorry to hear that Doug.

They're going too far, IMHO. You're clearly showing off old tv sets; not trying to infringe on the copyrights. And even if you are, I mean come on who's it really hurting anyways?

I've heard a lot of silly copyright stories associated with YT but this is up there...

The JFK video would have been covered as a news story and I would have thought that, unless you show the entire video, clips would have been ok. Looks like since you were filming a tv and not the program that the program would be considered as incidental and not covered under copyright, again if you have only short clips. I am not a lawyer though so this is just my opinion and not really worth anything.

My God, the Youtube nazis strike again for no real reason. Sorry to hear that Doug. They haven't bothered me YET. I've heard a lot of this going on, that and if something you post there is a little too against any government or the like, they will never stop bothering you. How the hell are we supposed to demonstrate a tv? I think we are doing nothing wrong. Although, I might be on the edge with my '65 Zenith playing music videos that are named in the video title. The video also shows up on searches for those bands, but, I've gotten some good comments from folks who clicked for that reason and have never seen the old sets. They enjoyed it very much.

It was bad enough that YT was removing videos containing full length songs; but, this is insane! I started to get a YT account for the purpose of displaying old equipment and sharing old music; but, I really don't think I'm going to the trouble.

Ugh, just when I start uploading stuff to YouTube :rant:
Maybe we should start using public domain videos for our demos ?

Damnit. They DID take down my video. It's been a while since I checked over there on my channel. This weekend I'll make a spite video since I'm such a smart ass. I'll also upload the one they took down but under a different name. It's also 'bout damn time to smash that flattie that I've been letting suffer outside since last year. Good times.......

I can't burn DVDs yet because my lazy butt hasn't bought a superdrive for the mac. I just hook my computer up via a video out or S-video. My eMac uses a cord that plugs in where you would hook a monitor up. I just use the headphone jack for sound using an adaptor from the 3.5 mini to rca cable. Works well, it's how I made the video they took down:mad: I guess everyones computer is different though......some might not hook up so easily.

It seem that ever since Google bought out YouTube, they have been very anal about these things. B-( Myself, I see it as a way to brain drain history since I'm a junkie of 1950's through 1990's TV with the 1970's and 1980's having a special place.

The jerks at WMG had one of my videos removed because I showed a 45 player playing records, talk about stupid.

The last couple TV videos I put up used PD content from Prelinger.
You can get some pretty good stuff there, even the 1950's Dragnet show is there as well as a lot of old Serials and some stuff from the Dumont Network.

Wow. Didn't know they were cracking down on stuff like this. Just checked and my video of WCIU's analog shutdown is still up. I'll have to keep an eye on it and see if it gets pulled.

It's a pissing contest that im afraid none of us are going to win at. This seems ever more typical of the times we live in. Living out here in California, everything is under a scrutiny sue happy savvy status. Everyone's anyone is trying to make a buck. Youtube is worried about there stocks and shareholdings so they would rather say that something that they find that could be a slight possibility of a copyright infringment, they just strip it of the internet. But what they dont realize is the long coming effect. And that is, who is going to want to use thier service when they tick off thier customers?

This is why Myspace lost customers Facebook...
It's just a matter of time until we turn to another video hosting site.
