A nice Zenith from Captain Moody

I picked this TV up from Captain Moody last Saturday...

That's a super crappy cell phone picture. I wish I had taken the picture while it was outside. I really like this set, and am thankful Dwight called me to get it, although I suspect it will be a tough dog...

Here is why I suspect it will be a tough dog...

The prior owner said this set worked, although I think that may have been in narrow sense that it did not explode when I turned it on.

Inside I found a disconnected degaussing coil (see pic.) Also note the heat discoloration from the connector touching the capacitor can... However after running the set about 5 mins, none of the cans felt hot.

But after finding a cord for it, I looked it over and fired it up. (Interesting note... My girlfriend said "I can hear it has High Voltage"... She was upstairs and the set was in the basement! It really is true women can better hear high frequency sounds, because I didn't hear it on this set)

True enough it did produce a really bad raster full of color blobs. No audio beyond a little scatchyness from the volume control and the traditional Zenith "motorboat". Since I didn't even get the faintest trace of snow, (or good ol' Channel 9 from Canada) I decided to look for an AGC control with no success.

Funny thing was the dial was still set to channel 9, and I was told the set came here from Canada. That kinda tells me that it must have worked recently, because even Canadians don't watch CBC much, unless it was the only analog channel that came in!

Anyways while searching for the AGC control, (now that I sit here, I think I remember it being up front on this chassis, hidden behind the bottom control door) the set made no odd noises, but shut itself down. I suspect a blown belfuse. :sigh:

That was all I had time to fool with, so I told it goodnight and went upstairs!
