Heathkit GR-295
Well, it's officially running.. Kinda
I figured since im waiting for some parts to come in for my 67 SC600 I would take a stab at the Heathkit.. This is another set I picked up from KX250rider. 25XP22 CRT needs desperate cataract removal attention, but did respond well to an 8v cook overnight. I was told that the flyback was arcing and was not used since then. Well I opened the cage and found the 3A3 and socket assembly hanging with no mounting hardware just resting on top of the flyback. Amongst the mass hysteria in the cage I found the focus lead broken off the lug. I resoldered it and a mess of other wires (anode and cap to 6BK4) with bad connections. I resoldered them too and the 3A3 socket is missing the back cap so I dummied something up with a spray paint cap and some electrical tape for now.. Im going to test it tonight and post my results.. Oh yeah, here's a pic of what I found when I opened the cage.

You're a brave man to be messin around in the HV cage with that small metal jeweler's screwdriver! :D
|
Oh haha no that screwdriver was not used in this. Well I got a raster and a blurry color picture. Looks like I'm on the right track.
http://i739.photobucket.com/albums/x...9/IMG_0100.jpg http://i739.photobucket.com/albums/x...9/IMG_0101.jpg As you can see this set probavbly needs recapping. I brought it up with the HOT removed on a variac. But somethings going on.. I have a condenser checker and I am going to check filters for leakage |
Yep, I'd be pretty happy with that at this stage!
|
That's great news! I'm pleased that it wasn't a failed FBT. That set may not need recapping, as the original owner was using it up til maybe 4 years ago, if I recall. He was also the type who probably spend hours & days on the alignment, getting it "perfect". He's a ham operator, and a retired engineer.

Wow that's cool that it was a daily driVer! Yeah it deffinatly needs new tubes. All of them besides the hot and 3A3 are weak

Got tubes in today, lets see how she shines tonight when I replace all the shot ones.
