New shotgun practice target
 

I picked up this Sony KV-40XBR800 WEGA Trinitron a couple weeks ago for spare parts for our good one... I can't bear to just dump the rest of it in the bin after I pull the boards out of it, so Sunday, I'll give a demonstration of how well the largest mass-produced CRT will withstand a 12g shotgun blast :thmbsp: (CRT is no good)

Just to put anyones' minds at ease, the tube is bad (damaged shadow mask), and the cabinet is already cracked, so there wasn't any waste involved here. I'm pulling the boards to keep as spares for the 40XBR800 in our house.

When I do the demonstration, I haven't decided whether to blast the corner of the tube from the rear, or right in the center of the front. I have the feeling it will be more spectacular from the rear, as the banding would probably keep the tube intact if blasted in the front.

It's been 25 years since last time I did a childish thing like this with a tube, so I'll have to crank up my memory. I'll probably do it Sunday, as there's an unspoken agreement among the neighbors that target shooting is best on Sunday afternoons, and nobody gets alarmed.

And thanks guys, for the compliments on the truck... I'll pass that on to my wife. It's hers ;) . She saw it on eBay in Houston a couple years ago, and bought it sight unseen. We flew down there and drove it home; made a road trip of it.

Using a rifled slug or sabot I presume?

Just a small safety tip! Do not stand exactly in the centerline of the front glass when shooting. There will be a chance of ricochet from some of the pellets. Hit it at a glancing angle, like you would bank a pool shot. Logan

It's more fun with a 30-06... been there, blasted a few... with a shot gun unless a slug, just too much breakage at one time to be impressive.. it just disappears... A 22 is also kind of cool if you hit it in the right spot...

Those sets are probably some of the heaviest non-consoles ever made.Trinny's were always heavy sets because of the tensioned-wire supports, but a 40" one, well damn. Hernia central!
