Good deal on Sparton (not!)
 

A local antique mall is going out business. I wonder why. Could it have anything to do with prices, like the $550 tag on this little Sparton?

Ouch. I've never paid anywhere close to that.

A Mall near here had the same model but in a dark cabinet, they wanted $50 for it and I was really tempted.

$550 is insane.

On our way out of the store, I told my kids that I would have paid as much as $50 for it, mainly because it's cute in blonde.

If I got $150 for my Philco 51T-1634, I'd be more than happy. $500+ is retarded, considering you can get a restored color roudie for less in most cases.

150 bucks would be way too much .
Antique stores are the biggest rip off .
There is one in my town that has prices like this , same stuff in there that was there 10 years ago .

No kidding. I made an offer of $1/tube recently at an antiques shop and he freaked out like I was trying to cheat him. Good luck selling those common TV tubes :rolleyes:

The "antique" dealer probably got it for $25 at an estate sale, figured they got a "very rare and valuable old antique TV" and they are going to stick by their ridiculous self-appraised value rather than put a reasonable price on it and make a profit, even if they have to keep it forever (which they wll).

A couple of weeks ago I stopped at an antique mall on the way home from work. One booth had a couple of console radios that I wasn't really interested in, two tube caddies, and a tomato crate full of used tubes in boxes. The caddies had a handful of tubes in each and they wanted something like $85 on one and $65 on the other, including all the mold in the bottoms. I picked up the crate full of tubes for $15. In it were about 30 6SN7s and another 20 to 30 other TV tubes (1B3, 5U4, 6W4, etc). I guess they think the caddies are worth more than the tubes.

Nice find on the 6SN7's. Let's see 30 of them would give you quite a bang for your buck reselling them on eBay.

Yeah , that's a favorite line for them , if there's smoke coming out from the chassis , they say " Ah , it needs a tube ...."
There is this one antique store in town , and he claims to have a RCA roundie console in storage , and everything is supposed to work , (unrestored).
Once we got around to the price he told me he wanted 800 bucks for it .
He thought I was crazy when I told him it was worth 100 bucks , maybe 200 if it was in really good shape .
He was kind enough to remind me that it was "running" .
I told him to put the TV on for the afternoon and see if it would be still going by closing time .
