Major find in Chicago
 

I was out and about on a beautiful day today and stopped by an Antique shop.

Do they have any TVs? Yep!
The current owners father had hidden them away in the basement and wouldn't sell them. Now the son has taken over and is eager to get rid of them and 100s of radios. So down we go...

They're still out in the garage until I can get some help moving them. I'll be going back to search for more goodies, but this stuff ain't cheap. Antique shops in Chicago tend to be pricey.

What a find!!! Thanks for the photo tour! Looks like exclusively B&W TVs down there...is that big Dumont a 30"? Sure looked like it. Spotted a couple nice ham rigs, too...what looks like a Hammarlund HQ-129 in photo 63, a National NC-57 in #69...and the jobbie with the electric motor looks like some type of Leslie speaker. Damn cool.

So, why did you leave that RCA CTC-5 roundie??? That should have been the first one to carry out of there! You ARE going back for it.... right???

I know that store, it is only about a block away from where I live. I was there a few years ago and saw all the radios and TVs in the basement. When I asked about them I was told that the owner was donating them all to a radio museum. I will have to go take a look. I remember looking through the glass in the rooms where this stuff was, and seeing a lot of thing I would like to buy.

Yeah, I got dibs on it - going back tomorrow to take a closer look. This place is only 3 miles from my digs.

I didn't really look closely at any of those roundie console sets because I've focused my collection on pre-1951 so don't even have any color sets. I live in a rather cramped 3-flat built in the 1870s on the top floor too. I'm going to have to start selling lesser sets or rent a storage room.

Also, I never claimed this stuff was cheap - I only have so much $$

Finally, I looked through my photos and I think this may be the backside of that one. It's B&W and busted :tears:

That Dumont and porthole where hidden in a very dark corner under tarps. I almost missed them. My heart darn near stopped when I uncovered it thinking it was a Royal Soveriegn, but alas a tape measure confirmed it's smaller than 30" - more like 24". I'm going back tomorrow and will take better pictures.

That electric motor really threw me at first until I realized it was an electric organ. The spinning speakers give it that unique 'organ-ey' sound.

The radio price tags I looked at were $100+, but I think those are very negotable. I didn't find any Philco 'Butterflies' or Sparton 'Bluebirds' or 'Nocturnes' - oh well.

That back shot is a blk and wht set. A color set would have a lot more stuff in there.

Oh, sure. Another forum member mentioned that there might have been a B&W model in this cabinet ?

Can't tell for sure, but due to the design of that channel number drum, I'd guess that is an RCA... kinda looks like the same drum used in CTC15's... but it's definately a black and white.

Those are all posted on Craigslist, sounds like they're desperate to get rid of them:
