To watch or not to watch :scratch2:
 

Just thought I'd ask: How many of you could actually turn the TV off for over a month, and that means no taped movies either? How much more would you get done if you did? Would you really miss it?

I Guess that while I 'm at it I'll admit that I did just that.:yes::yes: We all know what happened to analog TV in June. Right? Well the only two TVs I owned are analog older sets. I only watched the basics, public stations since I had the cable turned off over 10 years ago. As the time approached I figured I would try to see if I could go without TV, I was able to do so when I was in college 30 years ago, so why not now. I am conflicted by the results. I find I don't miss it really, not much on the boob tube worth watching anyway. After we had a small earthquake here last week, it was annoying not to be able to check the news for status reports, but I lived. And by all means I am happy as a clam not to have endured the long drawn out hoopla over MJs death. Hardest part of it all was having to tell my daughter returning from college that I hadn't bought a new TV nor invested in converter boxes. Now as far as getting more done, nawh, I only really watched TV at night so, I merely replaced it with additional computer time and/or catching up on reading.

So do any of you think you could cut the TV off??

I have never turned the TV off for over a month. Even if I stopped watching cable for a month, I am sure there would be a movie rental in that time period.


I probably could, but we would only be talking about an one hour a night, except for the weekend movie.

i have not had a tv for two years come next month. have thought about going fta just so i can screw the man. but haven't pulled the trigger yet. probably won't.

If it weren't for my 2 year old granddaughter being at my house every weekend, I could go without the T.V. I couldn't go with out music or my Sirius radio however!! :no:

Here's another vote for "easily".

In 1980, I lived in an apartment so cramped, there was no room for a TV. Seriously. IIRC, we lived there for over a year and didn't miss television at all.

Presently, I have a 25" color TV in the listening room and I think it runs a total of less than an hour a month... basically, it's just to check the VCR programming for other family members and DTV box settings.

I watch a few shows like "History Detectives" and the "This Old House" trilogy but little else until "DWTS" comes back, then I'm hooked on that. The rest of the time it's radio or stereo or, in good weather, sitting in my back yard watching the stars go by.

I'm glad to see that I am not the only one who can do without TV. I knew better than to post this question to the vintage TV threads. Only my daughter has been disappointed that the TV "does not work", so she searches out her favorite shows on the internet whenever possible. I always have some music playing, mostly spinning Lps all the time, I don't think I could go without them.
