Nice Motorola Color Console
If anyone is near Quincy, Ill. there's a nice Motorola color console for bid, it's not a roundie but has a very nice Drexel cabinet and appears to be very nice cosmetically.

Wow, for $49 it's a steal!

I think this one was on the bay twice last year but didn't sell due to location, Doug almost bought it but decided the drive was too much at the time. I would like to have it but I think it has the dreaded 23EGP22 in it. I do like the Moto style, build quality and the Drexel cabinet so I'd probably take a chance anyway if it were closer.

I too think it has the dreaded 23EGP22 in it as well. And, remember what happened to Doug when he tried to remove the cataracts from one of these!

If I remember correctly, this set would be "too rectangular" to be the 23EGP22.
I always thought the shape of the 23EGP22 was a "pregnant rectangle", like the rectangle in my avatar - the shape of a 21ATP4 or 24YP4 (and many others). |
The set in my avatar is an Admiral with a 23EGP22. I knew nothing about cataracts or their removal until posting here. I removed the cataract in the garage one night using a heat gun and a garbage can. The tube has a wonderful picture, contrary to almost everything I've heard about it. However, I've since heard that the weak spot of the 23EGP is the frit bonding the bell to the faceplate; it sounds like that's what got Doug when he tried to remove the cataract from his. Had I seen that before I tried mine I don't know if I would have gone through with it.

We owned a 23" Motorola console from 1967 to 1970. Dad replaced the kine twice, and when it went dim again, he bought a vastly better Magnavox. I got the Motorola. It was the hardest to replace tube that I have ever done.

With the picture in your avatar, I guess a stand corrected.
Can't decide if the one on eBay is the same shape as yours, though. |
If you know a 23EGP22, you will know where the anode is. Take a look where it is, on the side which is a 23EGP22. 25G's and others will have it on the top.
