The 1/2 ton mom had the same surgery I did, but she didn't make it, died a week later in the hospital. I don't think it was from anything directly related to the surgery, though. The 1/2 ton teen, his mom was prolly guilty of child abuse, IMHO, as she was the enabler for him getting so big. He had this surgery, too, & was down to a relatively-svelte 400 lbs, IIRC, by the end of the 1st show.

I think capitalizing off the misfortunes of others is among the lowest thing any human can do to another.

I couldn't begin to imagine why I would want to watch something like that; I seem to be surrounded by such people on the subway when I go to work anyway.

As far as morbidity goes, we still don't have the Execution Channel, but I am sure it's just a matter of time. You know there would be an audience.

I don't see these particular shows as tales of "misfortune" as opposed to tales of bad choices made.

As long as they show people stepping up and dealing with these issues in an attempt to resolve them, rather that wallowing in pity parties, I'm all for them in the hopes that they can inspire others to find the same courage.

I agree. I don't make a habit of watching these shows necessarily, but if they can show people doing their best to change their lives in a positive way, more power to them.

more trash on tv. sometimes I regret the purchase of my 48" lcd. Nothing to f-in watch! except this kinda shit.

You're not kidding. There is little worth watching anymore on TV. If not for professional football and tennis (and DVD movies) I probably wouldn't have bought one either.
