$10 and near me

Should I pull the trigger on this one? Seller only says "works well". Looks color to me. Chromacolor II?

It says Chromacolor2... I'd buy it. I've always wanted a solid-state with that clean Danish-modern look.
|
That is a great Chroma II.
Mine has exactly the same knobs / controls, different cab. Great picture. Cheers, Snade |
I don't see how you could lose, not at that price. That cabinet with a CCII isn't too common.
|
you can never go wrong with a zenith.i had an opportunity to get another chromacolor but missed out.i will not make that mistake again!!

You can't go wrong with any pre early 1980's Zenith; especially a chromacolor or chromacolor II. The one in question was probably made between '74 and '79 and used the upright chassis. Before plugging it in, remove the back and see what safety capacitor is installed. It will be right under the horizontal output transistor heatsink. If it's white, it should be replaced before you power up the set. If it's orange, you'll be fine as-is. Those white caps can and will suddenly open, causing the HV to shoot through the roof, which will blow the neck off the CRT and ruin other parts. I believe the bad white caps were only used in the '74 and '75 "E" and "F" line chassis.
When I was growing up, my neighbor had a Zenith in a similar cabinet. The only difference was that hers had the single knob varactor tuner. |
Just go get it!
|
I would get that in a second!

Got it. The seller had it powered up on rabbit ears and it looked fine through the snowy image. Strong HV. Focus was a bit soft but you can get to it. Clean as it looks in the pic. Seller said 1971 or 1972.
I stored it for now until after Kutztown and I will get back with pix. And a model number. Dave A |
Kewl score ! I think ya done good...(grin)
|
Looks very clean. Congrats, should be a fine set.
|
I'm glad you grabbed it. I'm not the best at telling the years on 70s stuff but I'd put that one around '76, it just looks newer than '72. Either way, great score! It looks mint.
|
The Chromacolor II's came out in '74. The first versions had the 25EC58 horizontal steel tube looking chassis. The ones after that had the vertical fold down chassis.
|
It's a 23" I'd say a 1975 but could be later 76 or 77. Make sure it does not have the white high voltage hold down cap still installed. Orange good white BAD. Folks are not kidding those caps can blow up the set. Nice find they were great sets back in the day I almost never saw one with a weak CRT.

Definitely a keeper.
