Pinocchio on BD
 

Just finished watching this one and wow!

This nearly 70 year old Technicolor film looks absolutely flawless, no flicker, no grain no scratches, the colors are incredibly vivid, and the sound is clear and solid, in fact it probably looks and sounds better than it did in 1940!

Thankfully Disney has always taken very good care of their library and it pays off, everything they release is impeccable!

I will agree 200% with you for the beauty of the image on Pinnochio....but the 5.1 or 7.1 ???? audio was wretched!!! I'm probably being very critical of the sound quality, so someone here will have to bring me up to speed on what was available THEN for the sound track. It sounded like a horrible attempt to make a hi-fi sound from an opitcal sound track. If this was 1940 and no remakes or updated audio from the original, then I can understand the CENTER channel only and some sub-woofer sound for a couple of scenes.
I'm sorry to be critical, but the sound was a typical severely restricted "movie sound"
(500-8000 hz audio) of that time until the early 80's when movie producers were miking everyone with wireless mics and more editing and computers came around, with what we have today in the cinema experience.

Well it was recorded nearly 70 years ago so you can't expect it to sound much better than a good 78 record.

I usually don't even switch the surround on for anything made before the Stereo era, two channel Stereo can sound pretty good on some of them though.

Fantasia was recorded in a multi track format, I don't remember all the details but it was an early experiment in surround sound.

I have both Fantasia and Pinocchio on LD, haven't checked either out yet. Looks like digital ProLogic for both on these particular releases:
