on ebay #360128832262. i guess it's like a '66 or '67 model with white turntable and fancy lookin stereo panel.

It is a unique set; not worth much more than the starting bid but maybe somebody can make room for it. I see he is using "make an offer"

If it's anything like the early 1990's computers that bear the same name, I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole! You'd have to pay me to even plug it in to see if it works.

I had a packard bell computer - it worked great.

That's the one with the super-deluxe stereo receiver with crosshair dial!!! Very rare, and a great set. I think it's about 1966; their first rectangular tube set. Has nothing to do with the crappy Chatsworth, CA-based computer assembler of the 90s. Teledyne-Laars acquired Packard-Bell in the 70s, and resold the name some time in the 80s. It's gone. Teledyne still occupies the old Packard-Bell TV factory building at 12123 Olympic Blvd in Los Angeles, and it's never been remodeled.

Thats a good question. Its hard to tell since in 1966 it could have been either or. Judging by the fancy crosshair setup and the style of the controls, I want to say SS, but then again, in '66....:scratch2:

Those PB sets were hand wired like Zeniths, no? Anybody have a good picture of what chassis might have been in that set? :scratch2:

They are hand wired, but no where as neatly as the zenith chassis were. The cool thing about them was that most of them swung out for service. Much better than pulling them outa the cabinet.

It's all-tube, tuner & all. The amp has four 6BQ5's.

And Carmine's right; it's all hand-wired posts. Quality not up there with Zenith, but someone not knowing what Zenith and Packard-Bell chasses look like could think they're the same thing.

I have that exact same tuner in my '67 Packard Bell stereo console. I just restrung the tuner needle string, and what a pain that was! My unit is all solid state. The needles are kind of goofy, and kind of cool at the same time. Pointless eye candy, but fun. My unit sounds like a blanket has been thrown over it. I'm planning on replacing all the caps.
