The top 10 Super Bowl ads of all time

This list was voted on by posters on msnbc.com message boards. The Coke ad from 1979 with Mean Joe Greene is the #1 favorite.

Personally, I like EDS's Running With Squirrels from 2000. Extremely clever. :D

I'm sorry, I don't like to sound anti-social, but I refuse to get excited about a commercial. I don't care if it cost ultra bizillions of dollars to produce and air, it still is the time to go get a samwich and or a beer.:D

Reebok's Terry Tate, Office Linebacker is pretty damn funny.

dew.

Commercials are an interesting art form. They are as much as a reflection of society as anything.

A lot of times, the game has been a dud. The ads are the best part.

That first Go-Daddy.com SB commercial was one of my fav's....

Ridley Scott's "1984" was a brilliant piece of ad work.
Like coming into the middle of a sci-fi film that you actually found you wanted more of.

Beautifully shot in 35mm, feature-film style, with many film history references ('Metropolis' and such.)

One classic moment in a field filled with garbage.

the jeans commercial where the sounds of the hospital room morph into 'tainted love'.

I love a good ad, cinema compressed down to the bare essentials. What is amusing is when you see a funny ad but cannot recall the company it was for; ad agency fail! I can only recall seeing a few of the ones mentioned, Master Lock, Bud Frogs & Apple 1984. All these years and the company name is still easy to recall though. The companies got their money's worth from the agencies that developed those spots. I am surprised though that none of the Fedex Super Bowl ads made the list. Still a fave -

Fedex 2004 (SB 38)

Long dead company but their Super Bowl spots kept their name out there (another agency success) -

Outpost - Wolves (SB 34)

Outpost - Gerbils (SB 34)

Looking back at the OP list, I can't believe Budwieser's "True" series didn't rate at least one mention. It will be interesting if InBev will leave Bud's creative alone going forward.

1st True

2nd True

Wasabi True

Yuppie True

It even spawned imitators -

Parody True

;)

I think you just told me what bothers me about them. :scratch2:

Miller Lite catfight commercial is the best one ever made but I guess it wasn't for the Superbowl.

Carl

Edit: Did the legwork and yes it was, 2002 Superbowl. :tresbon:

I like the e-trade commercial with the baby buying stock.
"Yo girl...can I hit you back." I love that line.

screenersam 02-08-2009 02:19 PM

talking babies creep me out.

the Hulu commercial this year was excellent.
"I'm Alec Baldwin, TV Star."
