Unusual indeed. You usually only see this set up on the combo's with the vertical mounted controls. Neat looking set!

Seems more like early 50's

Warranty card is probably for the picture tube, which was most likely replaced in 1958

Just saw your posting about the "Unusual" Admiral set with the vertical controls. I have the same set I restored about a year ago, except that the woodwork on the lower part of my Admiral is slightly different. It's a 1950 model, and a great performer.

What CRT does that set use, 16GP4?

Yes...my Admiral uses a 16GP4 crt. It was a little bit tired when I first fired it up, but came back strong after some use. If I remember correctly the tube was not the original and had been replaced sometime in the late 1950's. The original owners were my Aunt and Uncle.

I wouldn't be surprised that the only significant difference between these two sets' chassises is that the yoke on the CRT is rotated 90 degrees. And of course one chassis is mounted flat, and the other vertical. And maybe the CRT on one of them is a inch or two bigger.

I see plenty of used TVs here in Hong Kong, but NEVER see any that old and nice. :no: Mostly 80s and 90s cr*p. :thumbsdn: Wish I could find just one really nice one (no room for more than one!) like that first one in the OP. That sort of "oriental" look sure would look great in our place! We have a number of Chinese and Westernized-Chinese antiques and near-antiques it would fit right in with.

The one with the gold-colored surround (on its own, posted by Ampico-kid) would be a great match for Tannoy Gold speakers, too, with their similar gold driver surrounds!

Yep, I noticed the similarity. I haven't even opened up that Admiral yet so I don't know. The 3 TV's in that photo are "back burner" sets for a cold February with nothing better to do...
