RCA 2000 in Indianapolis
 

I have been contacted by a guy in Indianapolis who want to dispose of an RCA 2000 (isn't that the model that Elvis shot?). Too far for me to drive. He says it works but the tuner needs cleaning.

Something rotten in Denmark... The 2000 has an all-electronic tuner with no contacts or moving parts. I wonder if it isn't a G-2000, or what they mean by "tuner needs cleaning"... However, that electronic tuner was the weak spot on that chassis. It had long, plastic module sockets similar to the Magnavox "Bird Cage", which cracked all the time and caused bad contact.

I would grab any G-2000 that comes up if I had the room, and if it were on the correct coast... After all, there were only 2000 made, and they were quite a milestone for RCA.

Here's the TV. I don't think this guy is very hip to model numbers and electronics, so "tuner needs cleaning" could probably mean anything.

Definitely the 2000 :) . I bet it has a tuner problem, which should be fixable by hardwiring those module sockets. Looks nice in the photo, and the base pedestal looks like it isn't cracked!

Oh ya....definitely the G-2000. :D

I was lucky enough to pick one of those up about a year and a half ago. Drove up to Wisconsin from Oklahoma City to get it. I know, crazy but this one was never sold and in virtually mint condition. The picture is incredibly bright and clear and I am lucky to have it. :banana:

There was speculation on whether RCA actually made 2000 of these sets. There may be fewer of them originally in the world than we think. In some ways, this set may be as rare as the coveted CT-100. It certainly was a milestone for RCA and television in general. Just the fact that is has rudimentary memory circuits, albeit large and bulky is something in and of itself. :smoke:

I truly miss the days when RCA and Zenith were going head to head and pushing the envelope of quality and technology. Shoot, I just miss quality, period! :tears:

Someone please save this set. If for nothing else, for someone who is interested in it. If it were closer, I would go for it myself.
