Beovision MX 5500 Picture Problem
 

It takes Aprox. 15-20 minutes for the picture to come up. You get sound but no picture. When the picture comes up it looks fine, bright, no flickering or anything. Any idea of what the problem might be? Worth repairing?

sounds like a bad solder joint somewhere in the video or HV section. SHould be fairly easy to repair.

Or an electrolytic cap failing. There was one Zenith set from the late '80's that had, IIRC, a 100uf cap under a shield that would fail and cause a slow start-up condition.

It should be a Hitachi. If you need the schematic, take a look at Hitachi sets from the same years. Those are excellent sets, and they're one of the few sets still selling for good money on the used market. Definitely worth fixing. I agree with Jordan; probably a bad solder connection someplace. Try tapping around on the board, and see if you get any response. If not, it could also be a dried out electrolytic. I'd try to get a schematic for it if it doesn't seem to be easy to find a bad connection.

Thanks a bunch guys! Yeah I don't think I'll be repair it myself, I'll have to take it in somewhere. I don't know what I'm doing (AT ALL).

if you're going to take it somewhere, discuss with the shop owner the problem and the solutions presented to you so far. If he seems willing to work with you or instantly knows the problem and quotes you a fair price, go for it. If he gives you a bunch of malarky about needing replacement power supplies or a flyback (FBT) go elsewhere. Don't go for the $200 dollar repair to fix a few broken connections and some replacement capacitors.

There are alot of crooks in the repair industry unfortunately.
