These have particularly strong tuners, I know that. An excellent chassis-the sore point seems to be HV issues. I'm guessing these must have been introduced just after the G2000-the 2000 used the new RCA logo, and may have been the first product to do so. The earlier CTC-40's used the old logo. Some still use the "New Vista Color" script (though they don't use nuvistors) while others say "Trans Vista". This is a real "pioneer" solid state set-just what you have been looking for!

Very good find! The ctc-40 seems to be a solid set indeed from what I've read.

Probably just needs some new caps and a clean-up, like they all seem to need. :thmbsp:

Nice find! I used to have an early one with "RCA Victor" and "New Vista Color Solid State" plastered on it. Mine had a burned yoke and severe cataracts on the CRT. Between not being able to find parts (in the early to mid '90's) and catching the devil from my parents because of the set taking up room, the thing got tossed. I think those were made between late '68 and '70. Mine still had a HV rectifier tube.

Here's a scan from the catalog. I got this catalog when one of my neighbors was throwing out its gaudy 70's twin, and they let me take it apart on the side of the road. This was probably in the early 90's when I was about 12, and I still have some of the parts from it. I remember that he was paranoid about me getting shocked from the HV, and he nailed the front doors shut because he thought some kids would accidentally break the screen and injure themselves.

I think the catalog is from 1970, but there's no date on it. It's full of CTC-40's, CTC-38's, CTC-36's, and a CTC-22 all with the new RCA logo.

Shawn, it is good to see you back here on AK. I was just watching the RCA CTC-16 console I got from you today, with a Zenith digital set-top tuner and a set of rabbit ears bringing in every digital station we have (even low-power KGO and all the San Jose stations). It is still working great.

freakaftr8 09-14-2008 11:04 AM

Hey Chris! Im glad to hear the set is doing well for you.
