Hotpoint
 

Anyone actually come across a Hotpoint TV? I knew they got into some strange things, but this is the first I've heard:

Yes, they were pretty common in the mid-late 50's
They were a division of General Electric, and were essentially the same sets.

Seems like they were more into houshold appliances than electronics?

I've only seen Hotpoint portables such as Eric has. That console Cory shows is interesting. I have seen this same style wooden cabinet in a Motorola, and IIMS, seems I saw another brand as well. The cabinet with the "short table" underneath is very stylish looking.

A very well known and respected president of Hot Point was one James Nance. He left HP to run the Packard car company. GE had such faith in his abilities that they bought a large chunk of Packard stock.

Sadly, things didn't work out, although he gave them a last great gasp and went out with more of a bang than they may have otherwise.

I recently bought a Hotpoint dishwasher that was made and warrantied by GE.

The portables seem to be the most common sets.

The red one is a Hotpoint (I bought from Kamakiri a long time ago) the green one is a GE, the front mask is the only difference of note.
I have another Hotpoint like this in black.

There was a Hotpoint console on ebay a while back. Can't remember if it sold or not

I have an early (1920s) waffle iron that I still use that is a Hotpoint by GE. I guess they figured if GM could sell both Chevy & Pontiac then they could sell both GE & Hotpoint. I don't know that there was ever much difference in the two. I do have a bunch of pages out of a dealer's catalog from about '58 showing different Hotpoint TV sets. Can't recall ever seeing one in person, though.
