My CTC-86 died!!! any suggestions?

My CTC-86 console quit the other night while watching the news. It shut off just as if someone turned the set off, except for one thing--while the picture and sound were non-existant the chennel indicator light was still on. I turned it off and let it sit awhile and then turned it on. The degausser came on as usual and the channel indicator lit up, but nothing else. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

Let's see, CTC86. Is that the flat chassis with all the modules laying down? There is an MDR-something regulator module that plugs in on the right hand side of the chassis near the flyback. This could be your problem. RCA says not to repair this module. It should only be replaced. I've seen these fail and the set would fire up, shut down, and tick; but, it could also cause it to be totally dead.

You might also try the horizontal oscillator / driver module. If that module fails, it will kill the set.

I'll see if I can find a Photofact on this.
