Is this XL-100 something someone would want?
 

Not sure if this is appropriate, but I'd very much like to save a TV from the dump if it's anything in demand. A friend of mine has an old XL-100 he's going to toss. Says it works but the sound sometimes cuts out. Model number: FR 505 WX; year: 1973; serial #: 20825 2328.

That's all I know. Located northeast of Boston and would be free to anyone who wanted to save it.

That is an early XL100, maybe the first one. My cousin had a '73 XL100 console that looked like a late CTC39 tube set. His was a good set until it got so I was having to fix it every month.

This one probably has loose and/or dirty module contacts.

I would save it! Hell, I'd even pay for it if I was local. Hope it doesn't get dumped: One day we'll be collecting these. Remember people were chucking 50's tube color sets at one point too....

I thought RCA chassis #40 was the first solid state/xl100 chassis? Were some ctc39s also full SS? :scratch2:

The CTC40 was the first solid state RCA color chassis. This chassis was called the "Trans-Vista", not "XL100". The first XL100 chassis was fully solid state and used plug in modules (CTC48, I think). There were no solid state CTC39's; but, the control layout and cabinet for the CTC39 was identical to the solid state sets from the same era.

John, it's probably something that should be saved but I don't know if you'll find someone close enough to take it.
Is the trash the only option?

My friend doesn't want to hang onto it forever, and you don't see a sign outside my garage that says "oldtelevision storage." So our options are rather limited.
