Scariest Comedy ever Made -
 

I'll admit to being a little biased since my father, Sterling Hayden was in the movie, but stands as the best dark comedy made in the history of film - in my opinion. The movie ? Dr. Strangelove of course. Not only is it timeless in it's serious content, but the humor is frightning because you can imagine our leaders actually saying and doing the things in the movie! My father plays Jack Ripper who proudly starts World War III.

If you have not seen it since it was released in 1964......see it, you'll laugh and then want to cry-

Wow, your Dad was Sterling Hayden? I admired his work greatly. And I agree that Strangelove was a masterpiece. I thought "From Dusk to Dawn" was a pretty scary laugher, too.

My vote goes to John Carpenter's masterpiece, Halloween (1978). What, no one else laughed during this film? C'mon, how many times can a dead guy get back up?

Sterling Hayden was in another Kubrick film about a bunch of guys planning a heist or something...It's been YEARS since I've seen it, but it was REALLY suspenseful...Was in B&W & mid-50s, I think...I thought he had a BEAUTIFUL voice, too...And was a VERY GOOD actor...

Your father did so many wonderful roles-my favorite-the police officer in "The Godfather". My scariest comedy-I was 8 years old and my Mom and Dad took me to the drivein to see "Abbott and Costello Meet Frakenstein". My bedroom was on the first floor and of course I dreamed Frankenstein was at my window every night for days-Idrove the whole family crazy screaming and crying. My older brother still kids me about that!!

Love that movie. Welcome to AK.... Fright Night was good for comedy/horror.... My all time favorite Vampire movie.

Thanks to all for admiring my dads acting roles....he made about ten fantastic films, some of which are mentioned. The other Kubrick movie he made was 'The Killing' made in 1956.......a great movie - Kubrick's first big film and he was only 27 years old, an amazing director !

My dad loathed most of the some 60 movies he made spanning 1940 to 1982, lot of B westerns in the 1950s. He just didn't think it was a real way to make a living.....he had a serious and intense nature about him and these were the movie roles that really fit him. I should mention., he had a great sense of humor as well

My personal "top 25 movies of all time" list is topped by Dr Strangelove and includes The Killing and The Asphalt Jungle.

And didn't your dad write a book called The Wanderer or something like that? He liked to sail I beleive.

I read a book once about your father's travels around the world on boats. He was an interesting guy and a good actor. Tough to imagine not enjoying anything he played in. Thanks for sharing that with us.

Strangelove is forever. When I was a kid, Abbott & Costello's "Hold That Ghost" would scare us and make us laugh at the same time.

That would be "The Killing". Very good movie.

I'm also a fan and The Killing is one of my favorites. You've heard this countless times but Mr. Hayden was a great actor. He was the best part of Zero Hour, an otherwise forgetful film except for being "re-made" into the great comedy "Airplane!"
