TV guys - this will test your eyes

Photo from estate sale that starts tomorrow and is not far from my place.

Should I check it out ?

I say its a Zenith. Reminds me of the late 70s one with digital channel readout and the large door that spans the whole vertical portion of the set's right side. Probably a system 3 if I'm right.... :scratch2:

Is that the rare Zenith 29JC20 that Doug and Mr. Tubes have been looking for?

oops my bad, It isn't that one. But it looks pretty neat.

Snade 04-17-2008 09:24 PM

Found a better photo with a close view.

If thats a 29jc20, I'd be shocked...to me this set looks too new. Either way, it comes down to 'really sought after' or 'good set, not so collectible'

EDIT: mrfixer, just saw your edit.

mr_fixer 04-17-2008 09:52 PM

Is that a system 3? the one that had a built in speaker phone?
It looks almost new in the pic.

Mark, I am glad you have found something to fill all the other nooks and crannies in your basement LOL.

zenith2134 04-17-2008 10:02 PM

Snade you're becoming quite the TV collector like us... Better have a big basement!!

That set might have space phone and/or zoom. My '79 system 3 has zoom but is nowhere as clean as this one looks....if this set has either feature, just hope you find the remote control with it. The cabinet looks like one of those late 90s Zenith consoles but with the better, classic componentry....

Snade 04-17-2008 10:38 PM

It looks like a remote is sitting on top of the TV on the right hand side.

When I look at it, how do I know if it has the space phone ?

Hey Evan, that is funny. Yes, I have a large basement, but the floor space is getting scarce.

mr_fixer 04-17-2008 10:43 PM

I think i see a yellow and a blue button on the remote, one button is the zoom feature and the other is the phone?

colortrakker 04-17-2008 10:46 PM

Definitely a System 3, possibly a Space Phone. Way to tell from the unit is that it should say right on it. (And from the back you'll see an RJ-11 phone wire sticking out - it's hard-wired in.) From the remote, look for a SPACE PHONE button, and letters over the numbers on the keypad.

zenith2134 04-18-2008 08:55 AM

Good eye, I didn't see the remote. It looks like the early 80s 'computer space command' type and it probably does have space phone if it's got that remote. Should play well and if you get it cheap thats even better!

Snade 04-18-2008 09:40 AM

I'm gonna take a look at it, but I prefer a 70's chromacolor.

The space phone would be cool. Thanks for the help to ID this puppy.

Ok, I'm not getting the console above

Here is why - I only plan on getting one vintage zenith for my small collection.

And I think I just found the one at a different estate sale.

Grabbed this TV this morning: 1972 Zenith 19", Space Command "500", SC 500

Wow, I'm excited. Included two space command remotes and the original paperwork and manual.

Paid 10 bucks.

I have not turned it on yet. It looks in good shape.

I've posted photos of the Space Command 500 here.

Cheers, Snade

Good choice, and, $10 makes it even better! 1972 probably means it's a four tube hybrid chassis.
