Met Jordan yesterday and picked up a set!

I won an auction in March for a 10" GE set (below pic#!) in San Diego with the idea that the seller would hold it for me till I got down there this month, turned out he needed it gone by the end of April so I called on Jordan for help.
He was a life saver, picking up the set and holding it for me till yesterday when I picked it up at his place. Thanks again Jordan!! Meanwhile, Wednsday night I was browsing eBay and found another neat set in San Diego with a BIN option, having the impulse control of a four year old child I did just that and picked up this Airline 7" "entertainment center" (pics #2 &3) I'm really excited about this unusual little set, it's in great original condition and has an RCA 45 player built in, it's roughly the size of two Motorola VT-71's stacked on top of each other. |
7 inch Airline
I have the same set,its one of my favorites. I had the front glass reproduced, because it was flaking. The guy I sent it to did a fantastic job.

You're welcome Eric. It was nice to finally put a name with a face. Hope to see both running in the future :thmbsp:

Both very nice looking sets.

The CRT in the Airline is toast, very weak! luckily I just picked up a good 7JP4 a few weeks ago.
tvdude, can you tell me who did your glass? mine is flaking too, the lettering is pretty good but the gold background is really bad. I was hoping i could brush off the gold without damaging the numbers and repaint it |

What model number is that Airline combo set?

Dude, you are so spoiled. I crave that Airline!
I have not seen a tabletop "entertainment center" before. Most old combos are so monstrous that I have sworn off of them forever (or at least until this place burns to the ground). I think I could have made space for that one, though. Have fun. Phil Nelson |
Are 7JP4's not rebuildable?

That Airline is very cool - I've never seen a mini-combo before.
Phil - you've already got what is quite possibly the nicest combo ever made - anything else would just be a step down from that massive Scott. :D -Ian |
Got the 45 changer working

I wanted to do something with this set but am not really ready to dive into the TV so I took the changer out and rebuilt it.
It's in remarkably clean condition after removing all the dirt. I had a rebuilt idler on hand and got a william bosco cartridge for it off eBay, still need to do something for a turntable mat. It sounded great using an amp from another 45 player. :thmbsp: |

For all intents & purposes; no. Two issues: Those are Pyrex, which is harder to glass-weld than is the soft glass of most all other larger tubes. Also, they don't make the gun. Therefore, the old gun has to be sent out and re-cathoded. Charles |
Cleaning the chassis
1 Attachment(s)
The chassis on this set were nasty, all yellow from cadmium oxide and with an acrid mildew smell, sooo, I smeared Naval Jelly all over them, taking care not to remove markings, then I washed them off, first in a parts washer then rinsing with plain water and letting them dry in the sun.
Two of them have been cleaned, one hasn't, can you tell which one? :scratch2: |
