1104 Crt?
 

What is an 1104 used for?
Looks like a 10FP4 but with a modern button type base.

With the button base, it's a lot newer than the 40s. I'd say it's a special purpose tube, maybe radar or a viewfinder of some type. It should be in the RCA Tube Manual. Or that might not be the type number, and the seller might be asked to take another look...

There's another number on the neck of the tube. In the photos it is upside down, but looks like 1216 or 1816, I can't quite see the second number.

I looked in my Sylvania tube manual and can find no reference to this or anything similar at all. The number does not corruspond with any "normal" crt number. By "normal" I mean that most crts have a code that specifies size and phosphor type just to name the two things that I am familliar with. I don't know if military tubes would have a different numbering system or not.

My book has a special purpose section as well but nothing is listed there either. This tube could be newer than my book....

Looking at that ebay auction, it's a bad idea to prop a CRT on its neck. CRT necks are not designed to have much mechanical stress applied to them.

The seller is dis-honest. do not buy from him. I cought him at a dishonest sale and he has now banned me from bidding on his stuff (not that I would want to anyhow)

DO NOT BUY HIS CRT'S THEY ARE PROBABLY ALL BAD. HE HAS THE CAPABILITY TO TEST THEM AND WILL NOT DO SO. HE WANTS TO SELL THEM "AS IS" TAKE YOUR CHANCES.. ETC BECAUSE HE DOSEN'T WANT TO REVEAL THE CONDITION OF THE TUBES.

Last year I was over visiting with a tv repairman, in business since the fifties. We were going through things in his attic and there sat a 10BP4. He picked it up by the neck and swung it around like a jug of milk. I cringed, but then I figured by now he ought to know what he is doing!

I once met a TV repair guy who picked up a 21AXP22 (that I was going to purchase) by the neck. I almost passed out! I asked him if he always did that and he said yes, that he had been picking up CRTs by the neck for years. I still would never do that with a rare tube. Makes me too nervous to pick one up from the neck!
