Can you ID these sets?
 

Out of idle curiosity--can anyone identify these sets, as seen in the background of old photos of my dad? This is the living room of my late grandparents' house. (This is way before my time--I would love to track down a picture of the color set on which they used to watch The Lawrence Welk Show when I was a kid.) The first picture was taken around 1955; the second in 1961.

I believe the set on the left is a late forties Dumont Stratford

Yep, the first one is a Dumont RA-103D http://www.tvhistory.tv/1946-49-DUMONT.htm

I had one once, weighed a ton.

I'm almost certain the second one is a late 50's Philco, possibly a "Miss America" model. http://www.tvhistory.tv/1959-Philco-brochure1.jpg

Coupla things to point out

1. The picture at tvhistory.tv is mislabeled: RA-103D is known as the Rumson and has a 12" tube.

2. The set pictured in this thread is clearly not a Rumson. The chassis is the same, but it has a larger (15"?) tube as can be seen comparing by the mask in relation to knobs between the two sets.

You're right, I hadn't noticed that.

The Dumont also seems to either be a console or on a matching stand.

Most probably an RA-104A "Hastings" with a 15" CRT.

Fascinating about the DuMont. My dad always said that my great-grandmother bought a TV in 1948, just because she could--to impress the neighbors, apparently. She was born in the old country and to her, this was a sign that the family had made it. Except, of course, that Pittsburgh, where they lived, didn't get television until 1949. She eventually gave that tv to my grandparents, as seen here. I guess my dad was right! Thanks.

Left is a DuMont, and I say 15" glass tube... Very strange to see a table model with matching stand and Mallory tuner and that tube. All the ones I've seen with that cabinet were 12". Right photo I can't be sure, so I will go with Eric on the Philco theory. If not Philco, then GE is my #2 guess.
