I ran across more interesting tv testing and repair supplys at that tv shop that shut down. Periodically im "invited" to take a look through the junk, as I still havnt seen the whole place yet. Today I picked up some interesting testers, these first two you see are capacitor leakage tester, and a capacitor eliminator (for lytics). Whats interesting about this eliminator, it doesnt use any capacitors. It plugs in and U simply select low or high depending on if the cap is above or below 20uf. Once the neon bulb is fully bright, press test and the cap is automatically subbed and you see or hear the effects to see if the cab is bad or not. The other part thing just checks for leakage. I thought these were pretty unusual, but they actually work!

This is another interesting item, its actually a desoldering kit from 1958 made by Ungar electronics. This complete set is used for simultaneously heating up pins on various circuit board components. For example, the round disk inserts are for unsoldering tube sockets, one for 9 pin, the other for 7 pin miniatures. The bar is for unsoldering radial caps (components with leads close together) and SIP resistors. Also has a slotted tip for heating solder while bending the lead straight for easy removal.

somewhat more common is a flyback tester. However, I have no idea how to use it. Im hoping that he has a manual for it, as this tech was very organized and kept manuals for everything.

one of the best transistor checkers I have worked with yet is this B+K 520B. Automatiacally Tests transistors, diodes, FETs SCRs in or out of circuit, and identifiys material structure, and tests for leakage.

That desoldering iron will really come in handy when you have to remove a tube socket that has been destroyed by heat. I have had to cut the old socket apart and desolder each individual pin.
