How come we rarely run across cool 70s sets like this

I really never see the kind of sets that show up in ebay ads. You would think there'd be a ton of these old sets all around, but come on what are the chances of digging one off THESE up? I for one, would love it.

Maybe not too many of that style was ever sold. I think it is ugly, kind of an RCA equivalent of that curved-cabinet Zenith, but taste is always a matter of opinion.

They were around, but I don't see many either. That ad looks like a CTC-81 or CTC-97. All the companies made a pedestal ultra-modern set in the 70s. I think they were kind of rare, as most people had more traditional console sets to go with their livingrooms, and also the square table model "monitor style" TVs started to get popular about then. Kind of like that cheap awful shiny black furniture with bright gold plastic trim of the 80s. Glad that's gone.

Does a manufacturer ever have sets left over that don't sell?
If so, what happens to them?

Anybody remember the 1982-ish Zenith 25" Sys III console in an all smoked lucite cabinet? I only ever saw a couple of them. If the room was dark, you could see the CRT filaments through the sides & top of the cabinet. It was a BIG cabinet too; had full speakers on both sides like a combo unit.

i have a 19" rca from about 1974,75 that weighs a ton. it has the full size power transformer and fold down chassis cant remember the ctc number off hand and it has the inline tube bonded yolke. it is a low hour set belonged to the tiffins of tiffen motor homes that makes the allegro motorhomes. it is in storage and i am going to bring it out soon just trying to find a place to use the set. it has a bright and sharp picture on it. those inline tubes with the bonded yolke seem to not hold up as well as the delta tubes. i gave $40.00 for it several years ago. tiffin also has a building supply store and a appliance store. they are the oldest whirlpool dealer in the world. started selling whirlpool in the 40,s and going strong today. they are 7 miles from me. steve

back in the eightys i use to order 40 consoles at a time. you had to have maple, of course the dark pine, pecan cabinets. the tv had to match the other furniture in the room. i am in a small town and did not do well selling 19" portables most were all consoles and i sold a ton of them. the floor plan co. could not get over how many consoles we sold and so few 19" sets. steve

and you know there are still quite a few of the ctc120,s i sold out there still chugging right along. they were fine sets. steve

I think it's a CTC74 chassis. Saying that set weighs a ton is an understatement. I just thought Zenith CCII's were heavy...

no it is a ctc80 something later than the ctc74,76 eara.

i went and got the model number off the set it is a fa-465b made in april 1976 no chassis number on the outside tag. soon to be 32 years young. steve
