"new" '71 Emerson
1 Attachment(s)
Got the nos sets from Doug this weekend. The Dumont works fine, The Emerson needs a 'lytic replaced and I thought I would share the pics of the inside.
Only real problem with both sets is the musty smell. The Emerson shows a fine layer of mold on the bottom of the cabinet in the picture, It wiped up without a trace with a dry cloth but am wondering if I should use lysol or something to kill the smell? Haven't tried it yet as I don't want to remove any paint. Any suggestions? |

Thainks for the pictures. It sure looks weird to see a new looking chassis and CRT.

Try giving the inside of the cabinet a wipedown with straight bleach. If that doesn't do it, perhaps wipe down the outside with a mild bleach/water mix.
When are you gonna have me take a look at them??? |
I don't think I would use straight bleach, even on the inside...it's pretty strong. A bleach/water mixture such as 1 cup bleach to a bucket of water ought to kill mold. I would make it a lot milder, maybe a couple tablespoons bleach in a bucket of water for the outside, and even then I would test a small area first. You might want to try Lysol disinfectant spray first...it will be the easiest/gentlest and it says it kills mold and mildew.

Thanks for the tips! I will see what works best today.
