Any Setchell-Carlson collectors out there?
 

Had a Setch roundie a few years back, Was pretty cool with the modules and all aluminium chassis. The cabinet was constructed well, It was sturdy but light.
I have had no other sets like that one. Gave it to another collector thinking I would find the rectangular "top tuning" Model.
Well, Not as of yet anyway.
My setch collection consists of a b/w portable from 1961 and a module test jig from 1953.

Ironic that you asked that today as earlier I was moving a pile of Photofacts from 1968 & was leafing through them; surprised to see a couple Setchell-Carlson color tv's (rectangular). I am not very familiar at all with the company-the only things of theirs that I remember seeing were on ebay. I really didn't think they had made it as long as the late 60s. BTW, there was also a Stromberg-Carlson in one of those folders, plus some Arvins, a Catalina, some odd-named Japanese brands, all color. All rare today, I guess.

The newest setch that I had was a model called "the educator" for use in hospitals and schools. It had a locking door on the front that had the tuning and brightness/contrast behind it. The set was a 23" b/w.
It was made in 1969, I was told that the company was bought out that year and dissolved also.

I remember in the mid 60's till about 1967 that in my public grade school in Manhattan that once in a while they'd wheel in a monster of a TV that sat up very high in the air on this wheeled contrivance.....like those giant roll around ladders you see in large warehouses (reminds me a little of those rolling gangway stairs the airlines used on old time aircraft)

It was made out of a light colored Masonite or particle board and may have been painted with zolo-tone (AKA Splatter paint, like what's used in car trunks). There was a speaker grille on a side, and I think the controls were there too. It was an ugly mutha, although a feeble attempt at style was made by the front (in profile) slanted. Of course it was B&W. Seems they hooked it up to a cable feed, and it may have been a Board of Ed or early PBS source.

In my school they used a setchell-carlson educator model on a rolling a/v stand, They also had an Ampex reel to reel b/w vtr that I thought was cool for the time.

The one Setchell-Carson I have seen has the tuning controls directly below the screen...looked like a pretty heavy-duty model. It was at WVIZ, Cleveland, for sale $5.00 but my dad was driving and would only let me get ONE set! (was a kid still living w/parents) and I got an RCA CTC-121 or something like that video monitor/receiver. There were other early industrial model TV's for sale there as well.
