High Fidelity

Hello people!!
What did John Cusick's stereo system consist of in the movie "High Fidelity"?

Steve

He had a Panasonic 8track recorder. When you see it, it is on, but there doesn't appear to be a tape in it. I used to own that model, and there had to be a tape in it for the unit to power up. They must have rigged it. That's all I remember, although he had a nice amp from the looks of it.

A Mac preamp and a Marantz tuner.

The shop that supplied the gear in the film is still around in Chicago (Decibel, I have no affiliation to them). John Cusack is wearing one of their T-shirts at some point in the film. Man I love that movie. They're really first-rate guys and I've gotten some great equipment from them. I wonder if that Mac or Marantz is still in their basement somewhere?

Been a few years since I've seen it but I thought there was a NAD piece in amongst everything.

'Twas a Sansui integrated amp, either the AU-5900 or the AU-7900. Don't remember any other component.

That is what I remember.

What a great movie.

Definitely makes my Top 5 list of movies about dysunctional males growing up.

Great movie - been trying to find it at the thrifts on VHS, but no luck. I'm beginning to wonder if it ever released on VHS...

I got mine at Goodwill, on VHS. Check it out, if you can't find, I'll look for you.

SpeakerLabFan 12-20-2007 07:45 PM

Ok, I'll keep looking, nice to hear that someone found a copy at the thrifts.

My theory is that this is one movie that, like a good condition Led Zeppelin record, just doesn't get to the thrifts often.

Do your speakers have tweeters in them?

If so, disconnect them.

Dude, it's almost 2008!

DVD players are nearly free.

Just watched this flick again tonight. Hadn't seen it since it came out. I forgot how truly classic this movie is.

BTW, as for gear...In his home setup there is a Sansui Integrated (not sure which, maybe AU-7900?), a Marantz Tuner maybe a 125, some JBL speakers (I think they were 4425's?), and an unidentifieble tube amp and turntable.

:D

Of course, I've got a couple of DVD players, drives including the laptop I'm typing on right now

And I will snap up a DVD if I run across it...however you might have noticed there's ALOT more VHS than DVD $1 supply at the thrifts and Gsales. still looking, it's all about the hunt. :thmbsp:

I've thrown out or given away nearly all my VHS tapes. They are just too hard to watch. The only ones I've kept are the ones in moratorium such as "Night of the Comet" & a couple others.

The TT in his apartment appears to be a Rega. The TT in the record shop looks like a Pioneer PL-112 or PL-115. The NAD piece mentioned earlier was his CD player. If it was a integrated amp in there, then it must have been used as a preamp because there is definitely a tube power amp sitting there. I think the speakers were JBLs with the big lip horns.
