Actors who sing. Any favorites?
 

I was mightily impressed by Kevin Spacey playing Bobby Darin In "Beyond the Sea" and by his singing (I just got the soundtrack CD.)

Another one I enjoyed was Meryl Streep in "Postcards From the Edge" where, at the very end she kicks out the jams on "Checking Out of This Heartbreak Hotel"; she has a great bluesy country voice.

So, what performances by actors who "don't normally sing" do you like? (Horrific examples are good too :D)

She sings a duet with Leon Redbone - "Baby it's Cold Outside" from the soundtrack of the movie Elf. Her voice and the way she sings is wonderful.

Treat Williams and John Savage in the movie version of "Hair". Nell Carter, too, but we all knew SHE could sing.

Why William Shatner of course! I check out his version of Harry Chapin's "Taxi" last night on Youtube. Good grief!

Maggie Gyllenhaal did a couple of nice songs in the movie "Happy Endings" that it made it to the soundtrack. She has a sweet voice, and sings like she really enjoys the songs...

Dennis Quaid did a great job singing "Closer to You" (which he also wrote) in the "Big Easy"

Tony Perkins made a couple of jazz vocal albums. I have one and it isn't too bad. Sissy Spacek in Coalminer's daughter also comes to mind.

Clint Eastwood managed to destroy a fair number of country songs in the movie "Honkey Tonk Man," although the movie wasn't too awful otherwise.

He was also accused of singing in the Western musical "Paint Your Wagon," but he was a young man and can be forgiven on account of his brains hadn't grown in yet.

I thought Catherine Zeta-Jones, Richard Gere, and Rene Zellweger were excellent doing their own singing in "Chicago."

The late, great Jerry Orbach is best known for his acting roles in Dirty Dancing and Law and Order. But he started as a Broadway song and dance man. He was in the original Fantasticks. His singing is a revelation, if you've never heard it.
