rca ctc-40 help!
 

Hi everyone!

I was wondering if anyone out there can help me... I have a rca console tv, that recently stopped working. The tv has the ctc-40 chassis, I think its a very early build as its branded a "rca new vista- solid state" rather than the "transvista" seen on some sets. I had it taken in for repairs and it needs a flyback transformer, however the repairman is having trouble locating the parts for it. Does anyone know a good source to obtain the transformer... or happen to have a spare? This is a really great tv, and I would like to have it fixed to preserve it. Thanks a lot!

Have you tried Moyer electronics? I think they have older RCA TV parts.

I had one of those early ctc40's years ago. Mine had "new vista color solid state" and "RCA Victor". The secondary control door flipped up at the bottom. My set had a burned yoke and I finally junked it because I never could find a yoke. That was RCA's first solid state color set and needs to be saved if at all possible. I just wish I could go back and save the one I junked as a teenager.

I have a 40 as well that really needs a flyback. It gets extremely hot and the HV is almost 25KV witht he control cranked. picture just barely fills the screen on the sides. Ive done the initial sweep circuit checks and concluded that the fly has problems. Unfortunately, moyers has nothing available as I inquired about a fly a few months back.
Sad, parts are so hard to find for this set. Good luck with yours too.

What's the part number? Or drawing number on the flyback itself (I can cross it to the RCA part number...)

I wonder if we could get one of those companies that makes generic flybacks to make some for vintage sets. It seems that a few types would cover most of the commonly needed ones (60's RCAs and Magnavoxes seem to be the worst). I'd love to be able to put a flyback made with modern materials in my CTC-12. We could even re-use the original core since that might be expensive to replicate. Does anyone know where to find the specs? These companies are probably looking for work now that CRT TVs are quickly becoming a thing of the past.

Same with my Dad - he's tired of the "junk" generics, and swears by HR Diemen. I wish I had their IHVT tester - that thing would generate "real" test conditions for flybacks. I saw one in action at a trade show - the "bad" flybacks and the "good" flybacks all rang ok, but the bad flys failed on their tester.

I'm still surprised at what shows up on ebay in the way of vintage flybacks. I missed the FLY-308 I needed, but haven't given up hope.

If I recall, the CTC-40 was RCA's second solid state production set. The G-2000 (CTC-47) released for the 1969 model season I believe was their first completely solid state production set. They were to have produced 2000 of them (don't know if that ever really happend) and they had a sticker price os $2000 in 1969. While this wasn't the set more could afford like the CTC-40, it was a milestone marker in television technology.

I am lucky to own one of these that was never sold an it is in mint condition and has a picture on it that, in my opinion, blows modern crt sets, like my JVC 36" which is only 3 years old, away!

Just my 2 cents, if I am incorrect, I am sure someone will point this out. :D

After conversing with Doug (drh4683), it appears I don't have the flyback. Will keep my eye out for one though - two would be better!

If you'll post a part number; I'll check with the local parts house. They have a bunch of old RCA parts and there's a slim chance they may have 1 or 2.

I remember checking with an old RCA shop when I was trying to locate a yoke for mine and he said that was not a very common set (at least around here) and he was not crazy about the CTC40 chassis (but, that was his opinion).
