About when was this set hitachi made?

I'm into very small color portables (other than the portacolor) and was wondering if anyone had an idea of when this set was made:

Did they have deltagun tubes this small? If its got one I may bull the trigger on it.

Saw this one on eBay. My guess is mid to late 70's, all solid state, possible delta but thats a good question. :scratch2:

I love small color portables too since they almost always seem to outperform larger-screen sets. Nice set, I'd pull the trigger on it.

I had one of those. It was a delta gun and I would say early to mid 70's.

cool, thanks Andy. I will try to get a hold of this one.

Sams says 1973, so it could be within 1 year + or -. Nice set, and I like those early Hitachi color sets. My mother bought a 12" one in about 1969, which was our first color TV. I still remember seeing The Flintstones on it, which was the first time I had seen color TV.

I hoped to get it, but someone else got to it first.

Oh well, didn't feel like driving up to palm desert anyways...

Seems I was wrong about the year. Just wanted to let everyone know I was NOT the one who bought this set. Trust me I would not screw an AKer out of something on eBay; know how that can feel. Maybe next time jpdylon...

what's a delta gun tube?

jpdylon 10-29-2007 10:23 PM

where there are three individual guns in a delta formation (triangle)

As opposed to an inline design of 3 cathodes with one shared grid assembly. There were early inline designs that used individual guns, but there are few out there.

The delta guns are much better constructed and will generally have a higher resolution and picture quality. Most CRT monitors use a delta gun or inline with individual guns.

Hitachi was early at inline, but I have the feeling that this one is still delta gun. My mother's 12" was. A guess at when they went to inline is more like '74 or '75.
