Funniest Classic Comedy Ever! = It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World

I was working around the house and thought I would pop in this DVD while I get some things done. This has got to be the most well-made and entertaining comedy ever made (shields up Spartans!).
First saw this back in the 70s. A sheer gut-shaking, belly-quaking classic. I don't know which one is the race scene I enjoy the most, but here are some; big Jonathan Winters wrecking down the "new" gas station, Jim Backus flying his personal plane with Mickey and Buddy, Sid Caesar & wife blowing up the basement hardware store, Phil Silvers losing his car in the river, or Dick Shawn racing his convertible across the highway to rescue his "mama" (Ethel Merman). Not to mention all of the special cameos
Okay, it's intermission, time to go back to work & laugh.:D

And Kudos to Stanley Kramer for this 2 hr and 41 minute laugh fest.

My daughter and I watch that all the time. Best DVD purchase I ever made. Saw it in the theaters as a young boy and HOWLED with laughter.

Jonathan Winters and Dick Shawn steal the show in my humble opinion, with that late in the film appearance by Peter Falk a close third.

You're right, maybe the funniest movie ever made, and clean as a whistle too. Never happen today, that's for sure.

Sid Caeser's wife was played by Edie Adams, what a body eh?

I love the part where Winters tears up the gas station. He's also great when he's talking about Phil Silvers and what he's going to do to him.
I always wind up watching it whenever I find it surfing the channels.

Shawn stole the show in whatever he appeared in, IMO.

Now, as for an audio quiz, what was that Jazz tune playing on the little hi-fi record player as Dick and his girl were gyrating to in his beach house???
I have no idea:confused:

One of the more obscure classic comedies in my opinion, and probably the longest as well. Most modern comedies are about 1.5 hours, 2 max. 2 hours AND 41 minutes for a comedy while maintaining the laughs is an amazing feat.

On an unrelated note, I think this is the only comedy movie I know with a proper intermission. Monty Python and the Holy Grail's 10 second spoof intermission doesn't count.

Not the funniest movie I have ever seen, though. I can think of many that vie for that honor. Airplane, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Monty Python and the Meaning of Life, and Borat. Still, a great movie.

The flight scenes w/Jim Backus are pretty good too...Still think the best is when Ethel Merman slips & busts her ass on that nanner peel...
