Zenith B27A74R service codes or manual needed
 

My brother's in-laws picked up a Zenith B27A74R tv at a garage sale recently. The set's picture quality is ok, nothing to brag about, but while watching black and white shows (they'e big fans of the Honeymooners), they thought the shows looked wrong to them. I was asked to look at it and it does have a red push to the grey scale. Doesn't matter whick color temp is chosen, they both are reddish.

I have an old Sencore color analyzer and was going to get into the service mode and get the grey scale as close to correct, but the codes I have do not access any video parameters. What I get is just 5 parameters (h-pos,v-pos and 3 that have no usefullness for video adjustments).

The question I have is this. Does anyone know if there's another step in the service mode to bring up another page that would allow for drive and cut adjustments ? The sequence I found for service mode access is this:

TV on
press menu button until the menu screen dissapears
press 9,8,7,6,enter on remote within 2 seconds

the screen shows a service mode screen.

The up,down buttons move between params
the left,right buttons change the data values

Again, this is as far as I can get. Is there another step to access another page?

I think that fifth parameter is called "F mode". Change that from 0 to 1 and you can advance to the other parameters. Make sure you set "F mode" back to 0 before you exit the service menu.

If you have a CRT tester; you may wish to check the picture tube. Zenith tubes made during the '90's were horrible and most never lasted more than 2-3 years before they started to fail.

Thank you. I saw that param and did change the value but I did not hit any other keys. Once you set it to 1, do you operate up/down key to access those other parameters? Or do you operate the menu button again?

No,I do not have a CRT tester.

I believe you use the up and down keys to get to the other parameters.

They explain in great detail all of the parameters for adjusting "B" line sets. You kinda have to use both for Service Menu adjustments.

BTW, I have a couple of Gigs of Zenith/LG/Goldstar service info, all mirrored from their site if you need anything else.

you gotta weak crt. and if you try to restore or rejuvinate it will take a dump on you. the worst crt,s in the world. steve

The red push has been eliminated. The B and G gain setting were adjusted to get the 100IRE measurement to read close to D65 as could be adjusted.The bottom end was good,which was surprising.No adjustments required.
