I got the MUNTZ. Nice fellow selling from his parents estate. STill has a nice RCA console for grabs, but I have no interest in the RCA.
Thanks for the lead! |
Great, glad it's in the hand of a collector.
Can't take credit for the lead though, I found it on A.R.F. http://antiqueradios.com/forums/view...=579867#579867 |
I just picked up an RCA over the weekend from CL. Domestic Management (wife) has said if I bring one more home, she'll shove it up my $#@... However, I would be be willing to pull rank (or try to) if I find a nice 50's or 60's color roundie.

Those huge round tubes are actually 22"
|
Real nice score!!
|
When I spoke with the seller, I asked him how he determined the 22" screen size. He stated that he measured the horizontal distance of the "glass window"
I then said to him "so the actual picture tube would be about 19"???" He said "yes.. that would be pretty close" So I am figuring this is a 19" set ... If it turns out to be something else I will post additional information. I am scheduled to pick it up the middle of September. TTYL |

According to Riders that model is a 24 inch set. Steve |
^^^Hopefully learns something new every day.

I bet its a 24" tube as well just by the look of the picture. The screen just looks abnormally BIG.. I know the 19AP4 is a dreaded tube I think due to a habbit of losing vacuum. Anybody know what the rep is on bigger round tubes? I know DuMont loved to do crazy screen sizes in their high end sets. Were the larger tubes glass/metal like the 19AP4?
|
That model used either a 24AP4 or a 24BP4 both of which are metal tubes.

I looked up the Sams today 163-8. Picture on the front of the folder shows a chassis with an early B&W rectangular tube. When I looked closer at the parts list and the crt listings, it showed that the chassis used 2 types of 24" round crt's and several models also used a rectangular crt. So I expect that when I pick the set up it will be a 24". Hope the crt is usable, but I dont have my hopes very high. Should be nice for a display set though.
