Old FADA S-1030 TV
 

Hello,

I just got a call from my uncle and he wants to know if I want an old FADA S-1030 TV pulled from some attic. I haven't seen it and from what he is telling me it's in rough shape. I did a quick google search and very little comes back on this TV. I don't want to telll him to toss some rare TV out, but I don't want to spend $30 in gas to get a junker. Please advise.

FADAs are pretty rare, I'd say its worth at least looking at...I don't think they were made much after 1950 or so...Its gonna be an early one.

Looking at the sams folder (109-4), it's a 1950 model that uses the 12LP4. Looks like it uses an unusual continuous tuner, but not the inductuner like the DuMonts, it looks like it has variable capacitors in there. I'd go fot it.

I've had one... Kind of a plain set, but rare as SandyG says. The tuner is a cheap one, same as the Sparton and Arvin sets use. Mine had the 14" rectangular tube (also 1950) Despite the cheap tuner, it worked OK...

I have a Sparton 5325-A and the set seems to be the farthest thing from cheap in construction. It works fine with no restoration after over 50 years in action. The tuner is dead on every time and the set needs no antenna to clearly pick up several channels. The tuner seems to be FAR superior to my two RCA's from the late 40's which sometimes you have to tap on a bit to get the best picture.

Even if the tuner is cheap it is one of the best I have seen from any era.
