Ingmar Bergman has died
 

....The great man has left us; one of the last true 'auteurs' in filmmaking.

Lots of folks never 'got him'; he was the Gloomy Scandinavian Art Film Director you could fall asleep to if you took film classes, or just ignore if you rented DVDs.

It took me a long time. I 'got' most everyone else among the greats.
And then I started renting Bergman...BOOM...the beauty of the acting, scripts, cinematography...it fell into place, and today I love his films as some of the greatest of all time.
He died as he had wished, on his home island of Faro, on Monday at age 89. I hope he had the overcast day he wanted for when he departed.

"Seventh Seal" was great, if remember correctly. Did that have Max von Sydow as a returning crusader playing chess with the grim reaper?
