Sony Micro TV 5-303w need help
 

Hi:
I'm a newbie on this forum, and it's great! I grew up in the '50s and have fond memories of building crystal sets, one-tube radios, and Heathkits. I like the older stuff, and my recent project has me stumped.
I recently acquired a silver-face Sony 5-303w at the local Vinnie's for one dollar, very clean with original case, no cords or accessories. It's hard to believe this set came out in '62 and is 45 years old!
I recapped the sweep board, replaced the 2SC41 transistor with an NTE equivalent, recapped about 2/3 of the tuner board, replaced the selenium rectifier and the two smaller electrolytics in the power supply. It has good raster, and a good picture with some problems.
1. Vertical hold is very unstable and will not "lock" into place.
2. Picture has horizontal distortion (very wavy), with the distortion being much worse in complex images. Stronger video signals seem to aggrevate this even more, and weaker signals with simple images are almost distortion-free.
3. When viewing an old Nintendo game (Mario 1), the picture is shaded darker to the right side of the screen and has little white lines radiating out from the images to the right. Nintendo set is not defective.
No amount of adjusting can correct these problems. I checked the vertical output transistor out of circuit, and there is slight leakage between the base and emitter leads, horizontal output transistor is good. Replacing the vertical output trans. with a Radio Shack generic NPN version helped the vertical stability somewhat, but the picture was out of proportion (long legs, short bodies!)
I'm definitely stuck here. I am not a TV tech, and information on this set is practically non-existant. My questions:
1. Where can I get a schematic for this thing?
2. Where can I find cross-references for obsolete Sony transistors? I want to replace the V.O. with one that works properly.
Anyone out there with some experience with these cool little TV's? I've run out of ideas and can't go any further. Thanks, and I'm really glad I found this forum.
