Oscilloscope Advice Sought...
 

Good Morning everyone... Well, this weekend my workhorse HP scope bit the dust, and I really don't think it's worth my time fixing. Given that it's quite old now, I have been thinking of getting a newer model, perhaps digital storage even. Anyway, I just thought I'd ask what models you guys use. That will help me in my search for a newer one. Does anyone have any specific recommendations, or experiences you could relate?

Thanks for the lead Scorpion8, I'm sure it can be fixed, but I think it's time for a newer unit. I'd love to have one with more bandwidth, digital storage, etc. If anyone here has any suggestions on what brands/models to look for in a used scope, it would be much appreciated.

Tektronix:
465,475, 464 can all be had, working, for around $100. The next tier up is the 2200 series. Those have cursors for on screen measurement.

I am a sucker for vintage oscilloscopes (owing a Tek 545A), but this is one case where newer (and, gasp, even solid state) is better!

The 453 and 454 are good reliable scopes and simpler to service than the newer ones. They're among the oldest solid state portables that Tek made and can be had for under $50 for the 453, or $100 for the 454 (those are ebay prices). Personally, I'm using a 465 as my only scope right now. I have a 453 with the TV sync option in storage.

I vote for a Tek 465. BTW a good tube type scope can be very handy when working on TV's no need to worry about blowing out the front end.

I also highly recommend Tektronix scopes. I have one at work and one at home, a 2215 and a 2235.
