The first time I saw The Shining I was about 15. I was at a friend's house about 1/4 mile from my house. We watched it on "On TV". After the movie was over and it was time to walk home in the dark, I took one step outside :para: then turned around and asked if I could spend the night. His mom laughed and said OK.

There are SO many things about "The Shining" that are disturbing..The sexy girl in the shower-Va-va-va-voom !- who turns into a rotting corpse...the uber-creepy bartender, Lloyd...Mr Grady-Remember him from "A Clockwork Orange"?-the grinning guy who appears to Shelley Duvall in the end, holding a drink, w/blood running down his head...the strange bunny-rabbit thingy, w/the tusks who's doing something Naughty to the guy in the tuxedo, also at the end...those "remember-them-as-long-as-I-live' little girls...a lot of it was sorta "stream-of-conciousness" type stuff, made no sense, I guess that's why it was so terrifying...But Kubrick ALWAYS loaded his flicks w/"mind-f!cks" like that....I saw "Clockwork Orange" about 3/4 lit one night at a Midnite Matinee when I was in college..It made PERFECT sense then...

The creepy little girls were the worst (or best), I still think about them any time I'm walking down a long hotel hallway.

The USA version with the dude from 'Wings' and Rebeca DeMornay is more true to the King book - almost word for word - but I like the Kubrick version better.

The Simpsons version, "The Shinning" is better than all.
