Passed up a Sony today

There's a near mint Sony 1952RS with the remote in a Thrift near me, made in 1983, "Ball Bearing" style buttons, $14.00

Couldn't test it because the power wasn't available for some reason but usually the stuff they put out at least functions somewhat.

I passed on it because I have no place for it, also I could see even with it off that the CRT had some phosphor burns right in the center, like it had lost sweep at some time or the "Dot" lingered too long.

Good for you, Eric. I know I'm at the point I want to:
A) Know exactly what I have.
B) Get rid of what I don't need.
C) Repair and upgrade anything that I keep.

I've seen this more than a few times on Sonys from the late 70's to the very early 80's. Is this possibly due to shutdown flash as it loses deflection?

All the trinitrons I have seen from that time had some type of spot-killer circuit to avoid burning a hole in the phosphor. At the very least, the whole crt would flash momentarily, but I think the days of a turn-off 'spot' went out in the late '70s with B&W portable sets
