This is a special Sony made in about 1981. Part of the reason it cost $10,000 was that it was a very limited edition. It had a 30" tube - the biggest CRT made until Mitsubishi's 35" monsters came out in '85. Those doors in front of the screen were motorized, and the cabinet was made of some sort of exotic wood (I forget what it was). I think one of us has one, and I'll defer to him for more details, but that's what I remember about it.

About a year ago,there was another of these for sale in the L.A. area.I believe Charles new quite a bit about it and commented on that one.
What a stunning set,regardless of it's functionality.Has anyone tried contacting the seller to find out what the problem might be? I wouldn't mind having it just to look at.The bay area's just too far to drive..

I had one I sold three years ago on Ebay, I couldn't get it from my van into the house, IIRC it weighed about 550lbs!

I would do an emergency TV run and get this set in a HEARTBEAT!!! A KV-3000, for FREE!!

But I am WAAAAYYY too far away. And my van is still in the shop, anyway. Nonetheless-If it was within 500 or so miles--I would RENT a van and go get it!! (that is what I have decided I will do, if I come across something too big to put in the Riv right now. I will drive out to the Airport rental places(since they will likely only be the only ones open at night, if it is at night), and rent a van for a couple of hours, go get the item, and take it to my garage. Then, drive the car back home.)

YES! That is the KV-3000R, which is the $10K set from 1981. I cannot believe it's free, and I pray that someone gets it who knows what it is. I just don't have space & time, or I'd go up and get it (if still there). It weighs 510 pounds! The cabinet is actually Tamo Ash wood, and that one looks very nice. There should also be a matching cabinet for VCR and stereo. Not in photo, but should ask.

The eBay one last year went to Tom Ryan in San Diego.

While it's a big job, you can pull the chassis out complete with CRT. It's on roller bearings, and rolls into the cabinet from the back. 6 12mm nuts hold the front of the chassis to the cabinet, and a few more large bolts hold the bottom rear. You have to cut and resolder the wires that go to the motorized door safety sensors.

One more moving tip: The veneer on the base is very easy to rip off. So much so, that there's a spare piece of Tamo veneer in a bag on the back of the set.

It's an 820DB22 if anyone wants to call & ask about rebuilding. I have one that's fair-OK in a CVM3000 monitor. I've seen one that was very weak, but most of them are OK. Last time I checked, Andrews had it in stock for $1,672...

I've been eMailing the owner of this set, and it's REALLY tempting to run up there and get it. I've done that drive roundtrip in one day on a few occasions. It's about 380 miles.

Isn't anyone else down here interested??? PLEASE end my temptation!!!!!!!!The seller says he'll deliver it to LA after Christmas for the cost of a rental truck and gas/Diesel.

I found this picture of my Sony that never made it into the house, it stayed in my van until it sold on ebay a month later!

Still no reply to last week's eMail... Guess it's gone. Hopefully not to the dump!
