Made it to Ohio and Early TV Museum
 

We made it to Ohio and the early TV museum convention. QUite a few people are showing up. Steve's KUBA KOMET and GE Octagon are both arriving by tomorrow morning. Attached picture of attendies studying Steve's new color adapter for BW TV sets.

Here's my version of the original photo....I used nothing more than the lowly Microsoft Photo Editor...clicked on "Image" and then "AutoBalance" and finally saved it.

Good speakers today. John Trenouth from British Museum gave a informative and funny show, Pete Fasciano of Avid 's story about test patterns and TV history well done German TV and Italian Tv was covered, lots of interesting stuff was sold. The dinner and social was good and someone took a pix of all Audio Karma attendees and it was most of the room. A real good time.

Anthony, I beleve that is the 16" version of the RCA 2T51, maybe a 6T51?

Like this one but larger:

I went away with the Zenith next to it and the Admiral across from the Zenith. Unfortunately you can't see with the 45 player in the way, but the Admiral has an AM radio (sliderule dial) between the knobs. Pretty unusual. Also got a 1953 Crosley with UHF center knob.

It was hard to get a good shot of the mirror screw image with a digital camera or a video camera. Maybe someone got a better one? Seeing this in person was a thrilling experience.

And in an apparent fit of narcissism, here's a picture of me in front of the Andrea I brought to the museum last year. Once Steve brushed off all the spider webs, polished it up a little, and cleaned out what I'm sure must have been a shop-vac full of mouse fluff inside, it doesn't look half bad!

It took two shots to get everyone in attendance. I had the camera set to the wrong shutter speed and I did have to lighten it up a little.

Here are two of my three scores. Left is an RCA and right is a Stewart-Warner.

Did you know that there is a very rare radio controlled option that Stewart Warner sold......it would display the speed of your car right on the CRT so you could check if your kids were hot rodding your car.

You won't find me in the pics, we dashed off just a little too quick. Covered a lot of miles this (extended) weekend! Had the pickup loaded for all it was worth, with every bump it just wobbled! But, aside from some very small stuff, its all gone. No need to worry, by the time I got home (thanks to visits with Robt.Cikovic & Veg-o-matic) the truck was nearly packed tight again! Only 2 finds at the convention, the Westinghouse "suitcase" portable that shows up in a couple of the pics, & the same vendors little 12" GE portable-$5 each, why not? The museum is fantastic; just great to get to see & talk with you guys. Sorry I had to run before it was over. It may be a few years before I get back, but I would recommend it to anyone. And lastly, extra special thanks to Steve McVoy who I bet doesn't have time to enjoy these things like he should. Good show!

The Lady on the right is Edna Yanczer, and next to her in the green jacket is husband Peter Yanczer, mechanical TV expert and constructor extraordinaire. As you surmise, Edna is pretty extraordinaire herself in putting up with us "TV nuts". :D

She is very into her husbands work. I had the pleasure of eating dinner with them. She was wearing a Felix the Cat pin on her jacket. They are off to a radio convention to give a talk and show off his television sets. They are just wonderful people.

Had to scadaddle too, but I did meet a few AK'ers there., including Polaraman and Bgadow. i got a pile of schematics from him, several of which I needed. Itook several pictures. with my POS digital camera. here they are::::

one, is an attempt at a picture of a mechanical mirror-screw tv setup. in person, the picture was not that bad, a little flicker, but recognizable.


Next, is a nice, restored CTC4, showing the Wizard of OZ. The picture is NOT fuzzy, that is this POS camera's fault.


The next few pictures are of a HUGE setup of camera tubes, ranging fromearly image dissector and Iconoscope tubes, to modern minature vidicons

I wish I coulda attended. I seen you in that pic RCA. Anyway, all of you guys are WAY older than I am. im only 19.

LOL. I cant right now, because we are moving. mom forclosed the house mortgage, and everytime I bring a TV in, she yells at me. :sigh:

im just your average computer geek, and electronics engineer/tech. I just recapped a sony handicam, all the SMD caps were bad. It brought back memories of restoring old TVs. and this is only made in 90! horrible technology.


what makes it special, is im into this at a very young age. Well, back in the 50s 60s and 70s im sure about 5/10s of the young people were in that stuff. But now, maybe 1 out of a million young kids are into electronics. most of them are into computers nowadays. Around this area, they are either in jail or dopehead.s

Whats even more sad, is im the only one in teh entire family to persue a collage education. Even so, im not making it very far, because my math skills just plain suck, and im getting hammered with it.

polaraman is back from the trip. I came back with a truck load of goodies. Got a B/W 1958 RCA remote control set and a 17" 1954 RCA set at the convention. I travelled to Long Island NY to get the CTC 15 I bought off ebay. I bought another color roundie Maggie from him. Then it was off to ChuckA's house to pick up the RCA 630TCS he had for sale. Then I get home and there is a HUGE Moto combo on my doorstep. :worried: I put that in the rectangular section. The convention was worth the trip. Next year I think I will arrive on Friday. I drove all night long to get there. That way I will be rested and able to enjoy the convention. Met a lot of nice folks. Nice to put a face with a name.

I also stopped by Moyer's Electronics in Sunbury, Pennsylvania. Got the tour of the stash in the back room. This was only one of their three locations. They have a lot of stuff there. I had a wish list of stuff I wanted. They had some of it at that location. They are going to search the other locations for the rest. They would be in my back yard if I move back home. At least they will now know me when I call them.

Rich, COOL!!!! Nice haul AND going to Moyers. I deal with the people at the Sunbury location and they seem so nice. Is their location very large? Also was curious... when you bring back all your stuff do you cover with a tarp, or do you just hope for no rain? You always get the BEST stuff. If you're ever in the Omaha area stiop over and I will send a few things home with you!

Keep your chin up and stick with it Mbates. School and old TVs. You will find people of all ages in our hobby. I am 35 which isnt real old. Somewhere in the middle. You and I both can say we werent born yet when most of our interests were new. I'm real glad a younger man is learning electronics instead of becoming a software jockey and calling his self a tech. Most of those guys cant even use a VOM and dont know even basic electrical theory. Sad!!

Mbates, you're taking my joshing to heart....the ":lmao:" should've been an indicator that I was just busting your chops.

But since you feel that way may I humbly suggest that you do make a concerted effort to use the correct form as so many people nowadays seem to have gotten very lazy in this respect and it does tend to make the reader form a lower opinion of the author....not a slam in the least directed at you, just an observation, and one which will help you in the professional arena where something as minor as this may be the thing that gets you the job versus the other guy.

Good advice, I'd say. Conversely, the ability to use the correct form of something as basic as a pronoun can, in effect, send a 'coded' message to an educated person that says more about you than anyone else in a crowd of applicants applying for the same job.
