Heathkit GR-295
1 Attachment(s)
I bought this at an Estate sale a while back, last time I saw one of the 295's was in '78!

Tube or SS?
|
It's a tube set. Assembled in Dec '68.
|
My brother-in-law's father built one of those; they watched the moon landing on it in 1969 ... unfortunately gutted it years ago. Only thing left is the tuner.
|
That's really a nice looking set, good picture too! Can we see some chassis pictures, when you have the time? Good job!
|
I will Dave! As soon as I get a better potato camera.. LOL!
I have been using a cheapie tablet for the pics.. Once I get a few more repairs done for customers, I will get a good quality digital camera. |
My brother I think still has the wooden cabinet from one of these sets, he probably would be happy to give it to someone who'd come to his place in northern NJ to take it off his hands.

Thanks for the tip.. I will look into that one!

Many examples of photos taken with the X20 can be seen in Robb's posts in the estate and garage sale finds thread. The camera has a nice retro look too.

I wonder whose circuits Heathkit modified? Did they get to cherry-pick the best of each like American Motors* did in thier cars?
*torqueflite trans, rochester carbs, ford electrics |

Don't know about most of Heath's sets. IIRC, the transistorized rectangular color set I built in 1975 used RCA's SCR horizontal output. The IF was a unique Heath design, kind of an LC version of a surface-wave IF, completely pre-adjusted and potted as an unadjustable single filter block. Not sure if the remote control section was their design - used multiple parallel tuned circuits driving a bunch of transistors with all the emitters tied together, so they sort of voted on which frequency had the strongest signal. This discriminated against wide band noise, but some metallic objects could produce a pure enough tone to turn the set on. |
I built a GR-295 with the remote option in 1969 and used it until 1984 when I got a Sony Profeel. The set is long gone but I still have the construction manual. If you want it for postage costs, shoot me a PM. I may also have the remote.
