Just garbage picked a Setchell Carlson!
 

In awesome condition too, hardly any dust on it. Part of the model number is scratched off, anyone recognize it? I've done no testing, I just got home and will have to give it a once over obviously.

Model B (missing portion) 23508. Chassis 400B.

I really didn't open it or look at it yet, was on my way home saw it by the side of the road and was like "wow" turned around and crammed it in my Fusion, wife didn't even object to this one. I'll open it up in a bit, just finished dinner.

According to the inside B423508 is the model number, 23 inch set. I did some preliminary looking around and decided to fire it up, took a few minutes to bring it up safely but it appears that it works with the largest issue being static in the volume control. I couldn't find anything with twin leads to feed it a picture on short notice.

Even though it's not my taste, that's a jaw-dropping trash pick. What are the odds?

It is justice enough to have saved this thing from the scrap yard. It looks fantastic just from an aesthetic standpoint. It isn't the most common brand. Usually when I drive by a 90s era TV and I'm like "free TV" my wife says no emphatically. When I saw this I was like "Wow, that thing is pristine!" I turned around and got zero objection to picking it up. I probably have enough tubes to completely retube it but it has almost every original tube.

An old timer likely passed away.
I see it all the time in my area. The family sees it as 'just an old TV' or 'just some old electronic junk'.

In Germany it is years ago, that I saw sets like this in the street.
If they are showing up from attics and cellars they were offered
on ebay.

What a fabulous set. That chassis almost looks like it was designed for a slimline suitcase portable set. I sure miss the old console sets. There were some beautiful pieces of furniture back then. That one is definitely a keeper.

As you know it works, I'd still replace the wax and electrolytic caps. So it works for many more years.

Yep replacing the caps is ideal, it will be something I'll tackle at some point since I'm not sure exactly where I'd put it (at the moment it is in my breezeway). It probably will end up alongside my Midwest radio console but will take some rearranging. I probably wouldn't get to such a project until the winter anyway. Would be the first serious recap I've done since doing a Masco amp 8 or so years ago, and the Midwest was the one before that.

I'll have to admit the thing is in like museum quality shape, aside from styling it looks like it is maybe two or three years old, it looks that good in person. I just can't believe someone would ditch it. BTW it there was a heavy downpour shortly after I picked this up so it was barely saved.

That's what I'm thinking. And, audio, too? Is that the speaker lead coming out the bottom of the small chassis? Not sure...

I'll let you know if the IF is on the top (it looked to me by the few tubes I read the numbers off of that it is) and where the sound comes from, I only looked inside briefly to make sure no major failures were present before trying to bring it to life. Speakers come are center mounted in the console, so I'm not positive if that is the speaker lead you see in the picture.

I would have hit the hooks even if I saw that at 100 yards, its no mistake to check on what appears as a big brown box from that distance.

S-C is as unique as any TV brand was in those days and a held out for good quality like Motorola and Zenith, long after all the others started using printed circuit boards.
