Possibly buying my first DuMont.

What do you guys think about this model? I know the doghouse is probably more sought after and valuable but if I can get it for the right price I think I'll go for it.
|
Great set. I have the same one. If the price is right buy it.
|
it uses a doghouse chassis with some improvements , you also get a bigger image then the doghouse even though you are losing the corners... I had one , its a Dumont ra-103d , I should never have got rid of it but its replacement uses the same chassis but a 19" screen ra-110

A DuMont Rumson. Nice set! I have one. If you can get it, grab it. You won't regret it!
|
I would definitely grab that set and probably pay more than I should I have always wanted a Dumont. but in this part of the country you might as well ask for a working time machine.
|
I was at an antique store and asked if they had any old radios or tv's. She said she had one at home but there wasn't room for it in the store but that she could send a picture of it. I figured she would send a pic of a 1970's console. I was sure suprised when she sent me this pic. I plan on looking at it next week and testing the tube. Hopefully everything works out.
|
Hope you get your set I always wanted a dumount set not so lucky on my desires of having one. Hopefully one will fall in my hands next year at the convention best of luck to you...Timothy

Nice tv, Make the decision based on how you feel about the tv.... Everyone has favorites, worth more to us, than to another person.... Good luck...
|
That's a nice looking set. I hope you can get it. It's encouraging, imho, that she's the owner and not representing someone renting a booth at her store. That makes negotiating much easier.

dumont
The focus pot and relay are often bad in these sets.
The crt, 12qp4, somewhat difficult to find if defective. Heavy. Otherwise, nice set to restore. I paid $60 for my last one, with vg crt. Considered a '49 model, I think production of this chassis continued into '50. |
some may not like what i'm about to say but I actualy think this model - the rumson is better looking then the doghouse but that's just me , I've restored a rumson , and a doghouse and didn't have any issues with the focus pot or relay , the crts on both were not great , the dog ended up with a 12LP4 , the rumson rejuved , so hopefully it wont be too expensive and even if the crt isn't great theres always a brightener or rejuve or both.

I also agree the Rumson much nicer set. I also have both but the Rumson is my favorite.
|
what is cool is there is a version that looks just like the rumson but has a 15 or 15 inch screen , I know someone who has one and always wanted to get it from them but never did , wonder if they still have it.
also in the martin lewis movie either my friend Irma or the sequel theres is one that is being watched ( I think by Irma ? ) with the Dumont logo removed or covered over. mike |
I love it! Looks like it might sit on a table as opposed to the monolithic jobs like my old RA109A. I want a DuMont table model of that time period badly! Being that they were marketed to the wealthy, there aren't a lot of them left out there, but they are there if one is lucky.

got anything to trade for a doghouse ?

What's not to like about a working 1948 Dumont Doghouse TV?
Focus pot, 1K 25 Watt from Sulplus Sales + 5000 Ohm relay from ebay + electrolytics and capacitors = working Dumont Doghouse! |
I didn't think anyone said there was anything wrong with a doghouse , they are great , I think two of us agreed the Rumson was more attractive that's all.

I ended up getting it. Not sure about the picture tube. No shorts but not getting much emissions. It was in such nice cosmetic shape and complete (back, knobs) that I still wanted it. Here it is sitting next to my 48-1000.
|
Sometimes a CRT that has sat unused for a long time will "wake up" and give stronger emission after sitting on the tester for a while.
Phil Nelson Phil's Old Radios http://antiqueradio.org/index.html |
let it sit on the tester for a long time it may rise , if after a half hour to hour if it hasn't gone up you can try raising the voltage to 75 or 8 volts and see if it comes up then
mike |
leave it on attached to the tv for a few hours, then hit the neck with a stick...
|
Huh?
|
redneck rejuv...............:D
