Vintage TV's for a good price
 

Nice TV's, price seems to be within reason. Nobody really care's if I'm affiliated or not, so it's not worth mentioning. :banana:

Define "good price."

$1700 divided by 3 = $567 apiece. The seller may have been thinking of the TVs' individual value (what they may have sold for when the sets were new), although I do agree even that is too high if the sets will need rebuilding. Consider the possible condition of the CRTs too. They may not and probably are not in the best shape after all these years (I'm sure every one of those sets is well over 40 years old, but not by much since they all have UHF).

BTW: The seller doesn't even know how to spell "Magnavox", unless that was a typo.

I don't know whether to take that (and sanjarali's comment) as a compliment or as an insult! :scratch2: Oh well. I laughed out loud when I read VK member dieseljeep's reply, so I must be taking it as a sorta-kinda compliment of sorts, though I'm not sure just how it was meant.

For sanjarali: What on earth is "gislan", as in "(Name), you are gislan!"? :scratch2: I'm guessing this is some kind of Middle Eastern insult, but I'm not sure by any means.

Hey Jeff! That is one of my usual replies. It meant that I was responding to the other persons observation. All three of those items are nothing out of the ordinary. I would take them for free haulaway, but thats the extent of my interest. :yes:

Jeffhs, seeing that you are a man who is very particular with small details (usually regarding details that are already well known by the readers), I must say that I am a bit surprised by your computations. In order to prevent misleading others who may have read this thread (or have yet to read this thread), I must make a small correction. $1700.00/3 = $566.66(repeating), not $567.00 as you stated, because $567x3=$1701.00 which is not equal to the starting bid of $1700.00. Otherwise, I would agree with you that the seller MAY (and I stress the word MAY) have made a "typo" (slang term representing a typed spelling error). He will find that the name is indeed "Magnavox" with a "g" not "Maqnavox" with a "q". But we cannot jump to the unintentional typo conclusion as of yet. Perhaps the seller has dyslexia and he did not properly read the brand name, or the other possibility is that the bottom part of the "g" on the silk screening of the "Magnavox" name was somehow rubbed off from the backing plate on this particular TV he is selling. This may have been the result of the previous owner(s) who were not careful in operation which caused undue finger contact/friction to the backing plate when fine tuning the TV thus causing part of the "g" to be "erased" revealing what would look like a "q" instead. The other possibility is that a harsh cleaner(s) may have been used by the previous owner(s) in which to clean the backing plate. It may have also been the result of the current owner (assumed to be the seller) who tried to clean this TV to make it presentable for resale in the ebay auction. This laborious cleaning attempt may have resulted in the potential damage in which the seller was not aware he caused. If this damage/wear to the letter "g" in the "Magnavox" name were indeed the case, it may have mislead the seller into thinking the brand name is "Maqnavox" :dunno: Either way, he should be corrected too so that he does not mislead potential bidders.

Divide the starting price by 10. No say 20. And run it as an auction, let the market
decide!

And by the way Norbert, 1700/3 IS equal to 567, rounded off to the nearest dollar...

That Zenith 20X1C38, 1964 SC BW and Magnavox series 45 is not exactly worthless, but the amount of work minus what you would sell them for...still leaves a huge gap.

JeffHS is often the voice of reason, giving pause to some of us who operate on a purely tube-emotional level.

Those sets will be saved! As soon as the seller realizes that the asking price is a little high. Someone might consider a $500 bid. :scratch2:
