19" console?
Saw this on the Boston CL. Looks 19" or so and unknown type. Any thoughts. $50.

I'm thinking either Toshiba or Panasonic.

Looks Japanese to me and probably a 19", no bigger than 21".

Sweet! I wouldn't mind that one. I would still love the come across a 19" RCA console (the set I grew up with)
I "captured" a pix of the set you're talking about, in case the post gets removed. |
that looks like a box store set from the 70s.could be labled "bradford",etc.looks familiar.saw 1 or 2 in my time.it is a keeper though!

Looks kinda like a Hitachi set, I think. No matter what it is, I'd go get it if I were you. That's a neat looking set.

Hitachi... There were a lot of early Japanese "cosolettes", and they're kind of scarce nowadays.

Compact consoles are nice to have. Someone needs to save that set.

This is the smallest console I've seen. It's a Sears (Toshiba) with a 17" screen. The CRT has a large neck like a roundie. I haven't restored it yet, but I did get a raster on it. It's apart waiting for me to fix the cabinet.

IIRC, the CRT was weak anyway. I heard Conrac used that CRT in their studio monitors. There was rebuilder in Milwaukee that would re-gun those tubes. They were getting those tubes from all over the country, for rebuilding. |
When a vertical console was recommended to me by another member for my 19" TV, I didn't like the idea at first, and wanted to go through with my idea.
But this idea, simply a box with long legs, I do like the appearance of this set. I might be able to work with building a console just like this. |
You think the OP set is better looking than the Toshiba set in post #11?

The OP's 19" TV on the craiglist ad, as I see it, has long legs, because it needs no speaker grille underneath, because the speaker grille is already under the tuner to the right of the CRT. Post 11 has no speaker grill under the tuner and to the right of the CRT, so it has the cloth speaker grille underneath it. My TV is like the OP, and I would think, would look great in that kind of console cabinet. I don't see it looking good with the cloth type speaker grill under it, because it already has a speaker grille built into the bezel, and would look odd in my opinion. Now, had my TV for whatever reason, had no speaker grille visible, like on the side or something, then yes, I would definitely go for design #11. |

I don't think you'll get hurt too bad. There's not too many of those around. |
